Unhappy Newbie sat nav trouble

Hi this is my first post so please forgive me if it is an easy one to solve, the sat nav on my X5 (2005) has the SW 4-1/50 in the top right corner and I have had 3 discs off ebay and one from a source on here to upgrade the OS so I can have speed cameras and post code search and 3D view but the the dvd refuses to read any of the discs putting up on the screen No cd/dvd in navigation reader then after a few moments it reads ERROR in reading map cd/dvd please check the cd/dvd. I cant beleve that all the disc are incorrect but I am beging to think that my sat nav is locked at the SW version it has,
1, is it possible that the sat nav could be locked
2, is it possible to upgrade from SW 4-1/50
please help

I have been tinkering so is it possible that I have turned something off or change a setting?
