What year and model is your car? I have a 2001 X5, I was wondering if we have the same year or model? Any luck on your end?

Scottcx5,
Yep. same year and model. 2001 X5. I called an independent BMW guy and he told me bad news over the phone. He said that the way I disconnected the battery probably overloaded a "board" in the computer and the dealer was the only one to who could fix it. He said something about disconnecting the negative in the wrong order. I can't remember what the order was, but if anyone knows the exact procedures, I would appreciate it. I will keep them in the car by the battery. So it is looking pretty sad right now. But my thing is, if I have to spend $2200. Then why don't I upgrade and get some cool aftermarket deal. What do you guys think, anyone know of aftermarket computer that rocks? |

My advice is to pick up a used MkIV. Here's one on eBay currently at $645. It should go for no more than $850 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-D...30370127QQrdZ1

Nav Computer and On Board computer same thing?
Thanks for the advice on the Mark IV.
But is the Nav computer and the on board computer the same thing? Does that one device do the Miles per gallon and speed alerts also do the Nav? Or is the Mark IV Nav device a seperate piece of equiptment? I don't want to replace the Nav computer to find out that my On board computer is still broken. thanks, john |

Sorry, I thought you were having problems with the nav drive, not the OBC. For some reason, I was thinking that the OBC functions were controlled in the cluster

I took the car to a mechanic. He thinks, I hve to replace the
Display monitor. 2095.00 65 52 8 380 593 - Part and the Housing with cassette deck. It sounds strange to me because I don't know why a bad display would cause the radio to cut out every 90 seconds. Scott Did you ever find out what was wrong with your car and what they did to fix it? I would assume this is a common problem. thanks john |
