Sounds like you have put a mode1 disc in a mk3 mate, you need a mode2/form1 update disc, with some luck you will be able to get your nav computer back, but don't hold your breath.

Good luck.

If this question is intended for me, then you send the whole system called BMW Navigation mounted in the boot.

Yes the unit in the back where you put the map disk. You need 2 "U" shaped heavy wires or 4 nails to put in the pairs of holes on the sides of the face plate to release the lock tabs so the unit will slid out. Make sure the unit has powered off before unlatching and pulling the blue plug either the LEDs are out or the car has gone to sleep. Before you do all of this and send it to Victoria I would try to run the factory update disk as a last try. There is a burgundy plug also and the antenna plug pulls straight out.

Pull it out and send it to Morrabbin and let him fix it OR buy yourself a MKIV unit from ebay.

Did you get your issue resolved? How did you end up fixing it? Oh. I did the same thing as you did. And my updated CD still struck inside the MKIII unit I have. My car is a 2002 X5 too. My first reaction after this issue was "I should have left it alone" too.

Update CD/Disk struck in MKIII unit

How do I remove "cable" from the back of my MKIII unit? I attach the picture form an old post that showed the two color harness.

I tried to pull them out without a success. It appeared to have a black clip or something. I need to pull it the right way to remove the top and bottom harness out. I had better ask here first before I mess it up.

Help please.

Thanks.

The blak clip needs to be pivoted and this acts as a unlocker for the plug, dont force them or the will break.

Press down on a small tab that releases the black lever which then rotates to the side and raises the plug.
