MK4 Sat Nav Issues

Hi,
I have been a member here for a while now but this will be my first post, hello Xoutpost.
My Brother has recently purchased an e46 M3 out of the UK, we are in New Zealand, unfortunately something has happened to the Sat Nav unit on the way over resulting in what i am told is the head unit taking over. Leaving us with a manky blue screen and no navigation.

I have tried to update to the new V32 OS but with no luck, have tried a few different CDs now and even the older V25 OS.
When i put the update cd in it sounds like its starts to spin it up but doesnt, and after what sounds like a few attempts at reading it, spits it out. All this time there is no indication of anything happening to the screen.

If someone here can help me out with where i am and what i need to do next that would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

chances are the Nav unit is fried... did you have a transit/shipping insurance? maybe you will be able to file a claim with them? I had a similar issue with my nav - the backlight on the screen was out and the nav comp was acting up - i filed with shipping insurance, they have covered the full replacement of the 16:9 monitor and the nav computer at dealer cost, about couple thousand US$.

Make contact with ccfj1 on this board who has an e46 in UK or kiwijochen the nav expert who used to live in NZ or if all else fails see Autotronic over in Moorabbin VIC who repairs these units in Australia.
