im kinda hesitant about this AFE intake, my friend had it on his 2002 m3 and it basically messed with his mass air sensor, made the check engine light go on and he felt a significant loss in power causin him to replace intakes.

He ended up replacing it with a K&N cold air intake and after he installed the K&N, his m3 was back to normal had actually better power increase and the check engine light shut off.

Im not tryin to say the AFE product is bad in anyway shape or form, im just a bit hesitant about their intakes. We also do not have m3's we have X5's, so im just a bit hesitant.

Some guys that do have this intake already... any check engine lights or any power loss and or a hesitant type of power response as if its almost like the car stutters at low speed from 5-10mph?

I'm assuming the entire setup may be smaller for the 3.0X5 as compared to the 4.4X5. Probably just a difference between the I6 vs V8. But to be honest, I'm just speculating about that.

2. I read some articles (maybe on this forum) saying that a software and exhaust upgrade are also need with this Cold Air Intake mod. Is it true?

The mod as far as I know and my experience with simple things like this is that they will not harm the engine. I have done a search on the forum for folks who have these intakes and they have said that they don't throw a SES Error light on our X5's and X3's.
You don't need to do an ECU reflash nor do you need to do an exhaust upgrade. Those are just extra mods you can do to take advantage of the extra breathing abilities gained by the new intake HOWEVER your current ECU will be able to easily adjust with the new air coming in.

I think sir, that we are on the opposite ends of the boat here. I've always experienced problems with K&N filters being a little too oily and harming the mass air flow sensor which is why I'm giving AFE a shot.

Thanks for updating the list with all the folks.
I actually fell asleep a few hours of my last post because I had a Student Council meet, but I'll get back on it ASAP when I get home tomorrow. I'm really interested in seeing what kinda deals we can get. If not from Evosport, I'll try with other companies! :)

Guys if yall have any questions, I'll try my best to answer them.

sounds like he went lean with too much un metered air getting in. The pcm probably went pig rich, but still could not compensate. Wish they had an OBD II software so we could monitor the pcm like on Vettes.

How much is the 2005 4.4 cai with this GP????

aFe Magnum Force Intake Kit

aFe Magnum Force Intake Kits are very well constructed and designed to replace the entire factory air box assembly. The kit included a reusable cone filter, powder-coated steel housing, billet aluminum "Velocity Stack" adapter, polished heat shield, all necessary hardware, easy to follow instructions and cleaning kit. The aFe kit eliminates the factory air box assembly and by using an aFe cone filter, allows more air into the engine which results in more power. Provides a very sporty sound without being too loud or annoying. Dyno results show 10 Hp increase at 6200 RPM.
Note: Will not work on cars with xenon headlights.
