It may have been before we were called Canada (1812) but we were invaded once. And you know who did it, eh? The following year a raiding party attacked Washington and burnt down the White House. You had to build a new one. They they all gave up and called it off (abridged version). Friends since. |

this just verifies that the largest, more developed countries have either
1) more crime (wrong, see the other chart) 2) more prosecution successes and stiffer penalties (right) ahhh. that means the more civilized countries have a higher prison population, and lower crime per capita; therefore, a more aggressive tort system. boy, i am sure glad you are not a statistician, actuary, or involved in government. ps: world prison rates: 1 United States of America 2,186,230 2 China 1,548,498 3 Russian Federation 858,900 4 Brazil 361,402 5 India 336,152 6 Mexico 210,169 7 Ukraine 170,057 8 Thailand 164,975 9 South Africa 157,402 10 Iran 142,851 11 Indonesia 99,946 12 Philippines 89,639 13 Pakistan 89,370 14 Vietnam 88,414 15 Poland 87,409 16 Japan 79,055 17 Germany 78,581 18 United Kingdom: England & Wales 77,962 19 Bangladesh 71,200 20 Colombia 68,545 21 Rwanda c.67,000 22 Ethiopia c.65,000 23 Spain 63,582 24 Egypt 61,845 25 Myanmar (formerly Burma) c.60,000 26 Italy 59,960 27 Taiwan 59,342 28 Argentina 56,313 29 Cuba c.55,000 30 Turkey 54,296 31 Morocco 54,200 32 France 52,908 33 Kazakhstan 52,713 34 Algeria c.50,000 34 Kenya 50,000 36 Uzbekistan 48,000 37 Tanzania 46,416 38 Republic of (South) Korea 45,882 39 Belarus 41,538 40 Nigeria 40,444 41 Chile 39,331 42 Malaysia 35,644 43 Romania 35,129 44 Canada 34,096 45 Peru 33,655 46 Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) c.30,000 47 Saudi Arabia 28,612 48 Uganda 26,126 49 Tunisia c.26,000 50 Australia 25,353 51 Sri Lanka 23,163 52 Turkmenistan c.22,000 53 Netherlands 20,747 54 Cameroon 20,000 55 Venezuela 19,850 56 Czech Republic 19,285 57 Madagascar c.19,000 58 Azerbaijan 18,259 59 Zimbabwe 18,033 60 Hungary 16,419 61 Kyrgyzstan 15,744 62 Singapore 15,038 63 Iraq c.15,000 64 Puerto Rico (USA) 14,380 65 Zambia 14,347 66 Syria 14,000 66 Yemen 14,000 68 Israel 13,603 69 Portugal 12,983 70 Dominican Republic 12,867 71 Ghana 12,531 72 Ecuador 12,251 73 El Salvador 12,117 74 Sudan c.12,000 75 Libya 11,790 76 Georgia 11,731 77 Honduras 11,589 78 Panama 11,584 79 Hong Kong (China) 11,521 80 Bulgaria 11,436 81 Tajikistan 10,804 82 Cote D'Ivoire 10,355 83 Greece 9,984 84 Malawi 9,656 85 Belgium 9,194 86 Slovakia 8,897 87 Moldova (Republic of) 8,876 88 Mozambique 8,812 89 Austria 8,766 90 Cambodia 8,160 91 Lithuania 7,990 92 Burundi 7,969 93 Serbia and Montenegro: Serbia 7,724 94 Bolivia 7,710 95 Costa Rica 7,619 96 New Zealand 7,565 97 Guatemala 7,227 98 United Kingdom: Scotland 7,195 99 Nepal 7,135 100 Sweden 7,054 101 Mongolia 6,998 102 Latvia 6,676 103 Uruguay 6,555 104 Switzerland 6,111 105 Botswana 6,105 106 Angola 6,008 107 United Arab Emirates c.6,000 108 Lebanon 5,971 109 Niger 5,709 110 Nicaragua 5,610 111 Jordan 5,589 112 Senegal 5,360 113 Paraguay 5,063 114 Benin 4,961 115 Jamaica 4,913 116 Namibia 4,814 117 Estonia 4,463 118 Denmark 4,198 119 Central African Republic 4,168 120 Papua New Guinea 4,056 121 Mali 4,040 122 Laos 4,020 123 Finland 3,954 124 Chad 3,883 125 Trinidad and Tobago 3,851 126 Kuwait c.3,700 127 Croatia 3,594 128 Haiti 3,519 129 Albania 3,491 130 Ireland, Republic of 3,279 131 Swaziland 3,245 132 Togo 3,200 133 Norway 3,167 134 Republic of Guinea 3,070 135 Lesotho 2,924 136 Armenia 2,879 137 Burkina Faso 2,800 138 Mauritius 2,464 139 Macedonia (former Yugoslav Republic of) 2,026 140 Oman 2,020 141 Suriname 1,933 142 Sierra Leone c.1,740 143 Bosnia and Herzegovina: Federation 1,539 144 Guyana 1,524 145 Bahamas 1,500 146 United Kingdom: Northern Ireland 1,447 147 Belize 1,287 148 Serbia and Montenegro: Kosovo/Kosova 1,199 149 Mauritania 1,185 150 Slovenia 1,171 151 Fiji 1,113 152 Maldives 1,098 153 Reunion (France) 1,040 154 Barbados 997 155 Bosnia and Herzegovina: Republika Srpska 955 156 Congo (Brazzaville) 918 157 Bahrain 911 158 Macau (China) 894 159 Netherlands Antilles (Netherlands) 780 160 Luxembourg 768 161 Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) 755 162 Guadeloupe (France) 743 163 Serbia and Montenegro: Montenegro 734 164 Martinique (France) 631 165 French Guiana/Guyane (France) 600 166 Cyprus 580 167 Virgin Islands (USA) 576 168 Qatar 570 169 Brunei Darussalam 529 170 Guam (USA) 504 171 St Lucia 503 172 Gambia 450 173 Djibouti 384 174 St Vincent and the Grenadines 367 175 Bermuda (UK) 343 176 Timor-Leste (formerly East Timor) c.320 177 French Polynesia (France) 314 178 Malta 298 179 Solomon Islands 297 180 Dominica 289 181 American Samoa (USA) 258 182 New Caledonia (France) 251 183 Grenada 237 184 Aruba (Netherlands) 231 185 Samoa (formerly Western Samoa) 223 186 St. Kitts and Nevis 214 187 Comoros c.200 188 Cayman Islands (United Kingdom) 187 189 Jersey (United Kingdom) 183 190 Antigua and Barbuda 176 191 Northern Mariana Islands (USA) 150 192 Seychelles 149 193 Vanuatu 138 194 Sao Tome e Principe 130 195 Guernsey (United Kingdom) 128 195 Tonga 128 197 Iceland 115 198 Greenland (Denmark) 112 199 Mayotte (France) 107 200 Virgin Islands (United Kingdom) 105 201 Palau 97 202 Kiribati 74 203 Isle of Man (United Kingdom) 62 204 Andorra 61 205 Marshall Islands 43 206 Micronesia, Federated States of 39 207 Cook Islands (New Zealand) 27 208 Gibraltar (United Kingdom) 23 209 Liechtenstein 18 210 Monaco 13 211 Faeroe Islands (Denmark) 7 211 Tuvalu 7 213 Nauru 3 214 Afghanistan * 215 San Marino 0 |
Drex.
for your many tables and stats on crime figures to be of any use. You need to consider a couple of things. 1. how many crimes go un reported.??????? which in turn could affect the amount of people jailed. 2. we need the numbers of cases that go before your courts agianst how many are jailed. Have you got these at hand.;) |
Consider that the United States has less than 5% of the world's population. From your website:
Assults by country (43.6%) Rapes by country (30%) Total crimes by country (34.1%) You say: that means our legal system works and that we have PENALTIES for crime. it DOES NOT MEAN OUR CRIME RATE IS HIGHER. it means OUR PROSECUTION SUCCESS RATE IS HIGHER, and that WE DEAL WITH OUR PROBLEMS. So I ask you then, what sort of statistic WOULD mean that our crime rate is higher? More stats: Prosecutions by country (64.6%) Prisoners by country (the stats you posted above, but in a pie chart format) And, from the US Justice Dept's website: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/corrtyp.gif |
your point??
800 thousand out of how many hundred million???? dude. you need an advanced math class! |
