ok, and? i'm no police officer, but what do u suggest the officer
do in this situation? i mean, he already had someone driving a car
at him. should the officer have waiting until a gun was pulled to react?
i'm sorry, but this clown deserved what he got!

See I heard that exact part, which in my opinion does not warrent a shooting, I don't care who he is if hes drunk he deserves to be pulled over but if their was excessive force I believe the officer deserves to be punished, my whole thing is that I would not pull over even if an office said he was a cop, i'd demand backup first

If the guy is in front of his house...

There are supposedly marked cars and officers in uniform on the scene from that jurisdiction. You let them take over...when this story first broke it said nothing about there being other parties on the scene, that only nieghbors heard popping sounds...if there were other units on the scene would there not be sirens? Would there not be a chopper over head? Would there not be other trying to convince him to calm down? I love how everyone here is so quick to just assume he was 100% at fault. I also love how we are going 100 percent by the fragments of information. When I first read the story on CNN on Sunday it was that the off duty cop noticed he was going to slow....now it is he was doing speeds in excess of 90mph...this is Cali...if he called it in...how was all of this not caught by the copter overhead....how was the CHP not there right away when this went on for 40 miles....I am telling you...there is more to this story.

WHAT?

so, having someone attempt to run u over w/ their car
doesn't justify a shooting? let's see, he was told to stop
approaching the officer. he did not listen. he reached into
his waistband. at this point, one has 2 choices - wait to see
if it's a weapon (which could then be too late) or shoot and protect
urself from the threat.

i think ur missing the point here. regardless of whether the car was
unmarked or not, what idiot gets out of their vehicle, approaches what
has been identified as a cop and then reaches into his waistband? had
the guy remained in his car, backup would've arrived and maybe this
moron wouldn't have been shot!

Thats the issue, its 2 sided, some day there were marked cars, some not, I heard not, I wouldn't pull over, and here in Cali ESP San Diego, when you call for backup its like a friggin joke, you get like 10 police cars, I kid you not, its a circus, so if I saw that, hell yeah i'd pull over

broknlgs24 09-06-2006 12:46 PM

if there's more to it, than so be it.
based on what i've read thus far,
in my opinion, he got what he deserved.

No I don't agree....the local PD should have handled it...all he need to do was call in the plate and let them take it from there.

Right, you just call it in and drive away. Then he kills a kid, and you shrug your shoulders?

No, he should have followed him UNTIL the police arrived and let them handle it, there is nothing wrong with following someone in an off duty car until backup arrives

That is not what I am saying...if he was behind this guy for this long and called it in right away it should not have taken more than five minutes for a blk n wht CHP to get on the scene...as the story reads this went on from the better part of 40mins.
