No lights for me!
The lights FINALLY arrived last Saturday. There was another shipping screw up. To make a long story short, I called them like every half hour until they got me the lights. Unfortunately I had to drive to Manchester Airport (which is actually in Londonderry...) to get them. It's like a half hour away.. AND I got lost. So I finally got them and I drove home. I had two friends over, and they're both amateur mechanics. They know a lot. We removed the headlight covers and the inside trim. Then we couldn't figure out how to get the headlights out. We got the top two bolts off and we couldn't find the last ones. We looked under the light and we could see a few under there. We thought we'd have to remove the bumper to get at them, so we gave up and put everything back together. Chris F gave me some insight, so we tried it again Sunday night. We got the lights off. The problem we ran into this time is that only the plugs for the high beam match up. The low beam has like two different plugs. There were also actually some random loose wires floating around in there.. So we put the halogens back on. We decided we'd give it to someone else to work on. Monday morning I made an appointment at Concord Motorsport, an independent BMW service place near my house that's been servicing BMWs for about 35 years. They set an appointment for Thursday morning. I had to get to school so my mom brought me and my brother dropped the car off at CMS. My mom picked me up from school and we stopped by. I got my hopes up when I saw my car in the parking lot. Then I looked at the headlights, and guess what! The halogens were still in there. We went inside to see what went wrong and they had the guy who worked on my car come out. He said that he couldn't figure out the plug system. There were, of course, no directions included. So he went online to try and get them and get this... Umnitza makes you BUY directions! So he couldn't do that. He said there was definitely some wiring needed and all that stuff.... Umnitza sells this product as a direct Plug-N-Play product that "anyone" can put in. Uhh, nope! He said he was pretty sure this would void my warranty too. So I've decided SCREW THIS. I don't want to mess around with any wiring... And who knows what Umnitza's products are like. I'm just not going to do it. I'm sending the lights back to Umnitza tomorrow... We only get a 75% refund, too.
I still want xenons, though. My SA at Tulley told me that it's near impossible to retrofit, but I KNOW he's wrong. I also assume that it means that the dealer wouldn't do an OEM retrofit. I'm sure as hell not doing it myself. So, where do I go from here? I guess I'm going to gather more information and try Tulley again, and then maybe contact Holloway BMW, BMW Peabody, Herb Chambers, etc... I'm not holding my breath, though. I'm also sure it would be outrageously expensive. So, this sucks...
I actually worked to earn these lights, too... So I'm going to ask my mom if I can get somethign else in their place.
F-ing Umnitza.
