The 2007 X5 is a second generation design.

It is larger and has more storage area that can also be used as a third seat.

Don't know why you would want a H2? I still think the GMC Denali is a better choose if want a really big SUV.

This demonstrates wonderfully what the H2 is (at least in my mind).

Outstanding and relevant video for this thread. Love that show, and they are almost always spot on. My .02 cents on Hummers...I can't stand them.

My business partner has an H2. He likes it fine. He got headers and exhaust added to it.

After he did that, I tuned it for him (using EFI live - OK I had it tuned, then tweaked it a bit).

After 3 years, he's hot now for a Range Rover Supercharged. He's never had any problems with the Hummer, other than he likes a new car every couple of years, and it's about that time.

As this is a long thread, I forgot who made the comment, but someone said the Land Rover is "top heavy". It definately looks top heavy, but you would be surprised. I was considering it when I got my X5, and that big tall LR3 handles very well around turns -- almost no body lean.

If you go to their website and watch some of the off-road videos there, you would see what it's capable of. It has something new called the "Terrain Response System" which is like a traction system that has 5 or 6 settings, one for each type of surface: Ice, Mud, Rock/Boulder, On-Road, etc. It adjusts the gearing, braking, traction control, and even the suspension settings to optimize for each type of surface.

Also, each wheel has some rediculous amount of suspension travel in the "Rock/Boulder" setting -- I think something like 13 inches. I think the clearance under the car is also something like 10 inches.

And the air intake on the car is up high on the side, so it can drive through up to 2 feet of water without any problems -- they make a point of saying this in the brochure.

I decided on the X5 because i never go off-road so all that stuff did not matter to me, but I remember thinking that if I did go off-road, the LR3 was the car for me and none of the others would have even been close.

as far as the H2, don't buy it. H2 is absolutely nothing special besides how it looks.
it's not a good offroader at all, don't believe all the marketing hoopla, that's just smart marketing from GM to sell a Tahoe with different skin for 20k more than it's worth.
second of all, if you have a bimmer, now even a 90s model has a better interior than cheap plastic the hummer has. not to mention, handling, breaking, cornering, oh ya you do know real world is about 8mpg city right?

if you want an offroader get a G500, 3 locking diffs, neck in neck with H1 best offroaders

if you want a grocery go getter and be bored out of your mind, won't have to worry about little quirks, get an RX300

if you have a billion kids that you haul around all day, join every other mother on the block and get a Suburban

if you want a grocery go getter, a performer, an all around do it all, one that has a soul, get an X5

ps: one thing H2 got going for it though, you can fit 26's on there, you can't do that on X5, Rx300, etc. /end sarcasm

Nice. Again, WHO THE FUCK SAID I HAVE TO BUY A VEHICLE BASED ON FUNCTION? I don't, and while I respect your passion for BMW's, you might want to go about it with a different attitude. My priorities have changed, I don't drive like a douchebag that has to take corners at 70mph, I do not need to haul shit, but yes, my RX300 has held more equipment than the X5. And do not even get more started on the interior of my 90's BMW, it is pure shit, after taking the door panel off the X5, I can see not much has changed.
