Still doable, 50 000 pictures sounds like a lot, but if you do the math and assume each pic is 1MB on average its only 50GB. You can get 400GB drives for under $100

Pop open your computer case. Look at the size of the power supply and note its physical dimensions and power rating. Count the number of connectors (big connectors and little connectors) that come out of the power supply. Go the computer store, and buy a power supply that matches and has the same number or more connectors. Make sure you buy a cheap computer toolkit; these usually contain the right size torx drivers that fit the screws holding the PS to the case.

Putting the PS in is the reverse of taking it out so don't drink too many martinis before starting up the job. :)

It's pretty simple to do - plenty of DIY articles with photos on the web.

Every article I've found on the web says not to do this with a Dell computer..............

that's a bunch of BS re powersupply -- it had to do with the # of pins -- most modern mobo supplies come with many connection configurations.

changing a dell for dell should work.
