Thanks TrueX5er. Yes, I downloaded all the updates available so far. Tiger ran great for me before. I can't understand why I'm missing features in photo booth, iChat etc.

That statement dosn't say leopard is not compatible with Tiger. It says exactly what it means. That some of the applications written by others may be a problem because of the way the new OS is written and may require modification. That is so typical with Mac. OS upgrades it not even funny. This article goes on to state at the outset that for many users the upgrade feature will be OK. But for others a cleaner install may be the best ticket.

As for me and others who use the Mac for some serious stuff other than writting letters and other personal use we need to be very pragmatic about installs where prudence isn't followed. After haveing used Mac's for over 20 years some of the smallest heads up have saved hours of problems others have had. So I do my research, watch what others report, and move slowly. After all what's the hurry. Better to know something about what one is doing then to proceed headlong into darkness.

Did you backup your hard drive, remove all devices and do a clean install???

Looks like I have to do that... just installed it right out of the box. I just followed Apples instructions. What a PIA.

Most people do that but it's a bad idea because over time people add applications, have currupt file ect that are not compatible with a new OS.

He's my method for a brand new OS.

Save your existing hard drive to an external bootable
drive using carbon copy cloner. Make sure it boots.
Dismount it. unplug it and everything else connected
to your computer.

Get all your third party Application disc's right next to your computer.
Copy down all your passwords on a piece of paper. Have it there also.
Make a copy of your ISP information.
Get a beverage of your choice. Let's begin.........

Do a clean install which erases your hard drive.
Install Leopard, and configure your isp for internet service.

Begin to install all you MAJOR software first. One by one check to
see if each application works and upgrade each as you go over
the internet.

See where i'm going??? You guessed it. It will take a bit more time
but no where near the time it will take to fix problems created by
currupt and non functional applications.

Thanks you guys for your help. I have a dual-core 2.0 GHz G5 processor so I guess I'm out of luck with the cool background effects... bummer, but it's ok for now since I never use iChat. Ok Quicksilver, I will follow your method soon, but right now I'm a little under the weather. Supergreg thanks for the specs.

OK, just for $hits and giggles I installed leopard on another volume and now seems to be working MUCH better (and faster). :o I ran some utilities and found one of my hard drives was bunk. My problems with Leopard = bad hard drive. Never had a blue screen like some others have reported. Now it's time to get some work done on the Mac. Leopard is awesome. BTW I run 6 lcd's, 6.5 GB of ram... mainly for multitrack recording and some video stuff.

Using a Griffin powermate is cool with the new Finder (and just about every program I've tried with it)
