What Other Car Are/Will You Be Considering?

I'm staring to act like CJ, but I just had this thought...

We don't have a large family, and we certainly do not need an SUV, let alone two (My X5 and the CEO's X3). The ONLY reason we bought the X5 in '03 was to take advantage of Section 179 tax break (no longer available, by the way). I traded in my C-class and bought the X5. When taking the tax cut into account, we got an incredible deal. Now, without a doubt, the X5 is the best car I've ever had -- bar none!!

HAVING SAID THAT....

I love the PCar Boxster. I also love the C6 'Vette. My wife loves the MLB SLK. And, oh yeah, I still think very highly of the C-Class. (I LOVED that car. Not the performance of a 3-Series, but the luxury and quality are unmatched, in my opinion.)

So... I know many of you have second and third "daily drivers." My question is, when it's time to trade in or give up your X5 (for whatever reason), will you buy another X5, even if you don't "need" it? Or, what else would/will you consider buying?

Also... if you did sell the X and bought something else... will you still hang around here on X5World? :)

I'm going to look at the E90 M3 when it's out.

AFAIK, those of us who took the 179 deduction need to keep the X5 for five years unless we want to give some money back to Uncle Sam. That will be about right for me if the M3 works out... it will have been in production for about two years. Of course, those of you who are familiar with my posts know I kept my E30 325i for fifteen years...

I bought a Cadillac CTS-V, because I was tired of waiting for the M5 to come out. Of course, I needed back seats, and seating for 5. If you don't need that, it opens up a lot of other worlds to you that aren't available to me.

Of course, now I miss the haul space of the X. My wife has an Escalade ESV, but it's a family truckster, so I can't get that dirty hauling my stuff around.

ps - I would, and do, still hang around occasionally. I spend more time on the Sea Ray website of late, because I'm having a myriad of fix-it proejcts on the boat to deal with. But, the people are cool over here, and it's nice to see how everyone's doing.

our X5 was a couple cars ago already... My wife replaced it with the S4 Avant... We don't really NEED a X5 but it was nice for the home depot/lowe's runs.

After driving back to back my neighbor's 360 CS and another neighbor's Gallardo, I think one of those will be my next... (would like to have a 430 but will not pay up the ass for it so that will not happen anytime soon...)

Yup! You're right. I don't plan to get rid of my X any time soon... well, at least 15 months (when my Section 179 deduction comes to an end), and even then, I will certainly consider the new X5 -- that is, of course, if it does not get "bangled" too badly! Every time I see that Boxster, though... :excited:

We'll see.

Yeah, I've noticed you don't post here that often anymore. I still visit seayray owners occasionally, but hang out mostly here.

Juan, its funny that you are posing this question because I was thinking the same thing as I was washing the X5 this morning. Not what I would replace the X5 with but If I replaced it with a different vehicle, "would I still hang around X5world"? The answer is yes.

I feel that X5world is a great info base. Wether its for an oil and filter DIY, deal of the week ie: SuperGreg/X5world thong underwear from the X5world store, off topic questions answered from other members, Kevins pics of well manicured lawns on FF or just chatting with as md puts it, "the regs and faves".

What will make hanging out at X5world more enjoyable is being able to put names and avatars with faces at the 1st annual X5world meet.

Forgive me for rambling on but one thing I do know is when I do replace the X5, its replacement will be a BMW for sure. :)

My lease isn't up for 2.5 years, so it's tough to say what the economy and gas prices will be like, but regardless of what happens i'm pretty much done with the luxury cars/trucks, it's time to explore another genre of cars/trucks (well, except for Fords/Mazda/Volvo/Hyundai)....

Chevy Aveo

Why? It's got 4 doors and a hatchback, costs just $17000 Canadian, eats regular gas, and has fuel economy that's at least 3 times better than the X5's.

What car would I consider to REPLACE the X5? A 530xi touring model. More cargo, similar 0-100km/h, twice the fuel economy, and the handling of a 5-series.
