The black levels are getting very close to CRT on newer LCDs.
Panasonic has LCDs and waiting for Pioneer to start LCD too.

Barry... getting a better TV won't help.. what you need is better bifocals to really get a better picture! :nanana:

I hear you, BFAM. Comcrap takes patience, but it pumps out some
good phone, very fast 'net and outstanding HD DVR signals, imo.

I've just bought a new TV and chose the

Panasonic Plasma TV TH50 PZ800B and got to say I like it.

The home cinema and blue ray is the Panasonic SC-BT100 with the upgrade wireless speakers to make it 7.1

Upgrade to SKY HD.


In saying all that about LCD and Plasma

I hear good things about Pioneer at the moment

IMHO ... LCDs are almost up to the level of plasmas but not yet.

If you're going to get a larger screen (large to me means 48"-50" and over), want upper quality pic, is gonna be a focus of the room and better overall TV - then I say get a plasma.

There's something about viewing it from every angle and having each pixel be a backlight that so far is hard to pass up. :thumbup:

Oh and I second Pioneer ... I love my 60" Pio! :D

This is a gross generalization and not accurate. That's like saying "SUV's are better than minivans". They can both accomplish similar things, but each fits needs that are unique and preferences very greatly.

The differences in picture quality are narrowing between LCDs and plasmas, however they each have huge pros and cons. I won't go over the details because there is sooo much literature about the topic. A well researched and informed opinion with one coming to his/her own conclusions is best :thumbup: .

I agree that LCDs are more user friendly and appeal to a much wider consumer audience, and they have made huge strides in picture quality over the last 3-5 years. However, they are not the best solution for everyone in every setting. I have a 50" plasma personally (Panasonic), a 62" plasma (LG), and a 37" LCD (Sony). I'm extremely happy with all 3 and I use them all for completely different applications.

I was JUST here.... I ended up picking up a Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ85U 42-Inch 1080p Plasma. (got it for under 800 shipped)

Man this thing is NICE..

I agree with the others that LCD's and plasmas are great in their own appliacations. It depends so much on the personal situation and the room you are going to use it in.
