I am running Vista on an Intel Quad Core platform with 8GB of RAM and 2 terabye of hard drive space. So performance hasn't been an issue with my setup. But I agree that there is a lot of OS bloat and overhead that I would welcome be eliminated and allow the machine to scream even faster :zoom:

I agree, but I don't think this will be the case being that they're targeting the Mac crowd with the "make PCs easier to use" approach. I don't like feeling disconnected from what's happening with my pc.

nice specs ;) one great thing about vista is being able to utilize all 8 GB, as opposed to having 8GB on XP and using 3.5 >__>

I downloaded the W7 beta last night from MS Connect. It installed fast and looks good so far. Filed my first bug report too :p:

Vista runs great here. Q9450 with 4 GB running Ultimate 32-bit. Very few people need more than 3.5 GB RAM or need x64. I use the quad core machine as a media center, dev machine, and generally have a ton of windows open and it doesn't bog down. Vista is a dog if you don't have adequate hardware. Still the machine cost less than $1,000 to build and is virtually silent :)

Lots of people say OS X is simpler but I get confused when I try to use it (MS user since 1983). Plus the inflexible, overpriced Apple hardware dongle is ridiculous (unless you're comfortable breaking IP laws to run it on 3rd party hw).

I doubt I will ever buy another windows machine after living with my imac and macbook over the past 2 years...the new macs are just so damned stable, I've had 0 issues on my 2 machines that get used everyday all day...
