aftermarket sub/amp, wired, not working?

I have a 03 4.4i with reg. stereo non dsp, with 6 cd changer. I installed everything, power wiring etc. Have a 2 channel amp.

Tapped into the wires from 11 and 12, and 5 and 6... hooked them into the high low converter, which then plugs into the amp via rca cables. I tried only pluggin just the 11 and 12 and just 5 and 6... but no luck. I am attached those wires to a cut rca cable. so one end can connect to the filter. But no sound, however my stock speakers sound hella lot better! lol.. also, keeps blowing the cd changer fuse. What am i doing wrong?

It is a 12 pin connector btw. All pins, except one are being used. Also should add, i have bluetooth installed (aftermarket, bmw oem). Should I be tapping into the front speakers? Or rear should work? from the wires that are tapped ( 5 and 6 or 11 and 12) i joined them to a rca (i cut off one end) then plugged the other end into the hi input rca connectors on the converter, which then goes to the amp...

Where did you get the constant +12v from to feed the sub amp? You have to get it straight from the battery. If you keep blowing your CD changer fuse every time you put your amp on it looks to me that you may be feeding your amp from the same +12v source as the CD changer. That would explain why you do not get any sound out of the sub amp. Once you have that figured out then you can start checking your audio connections. For a 12pins stock amp connector 5/6 (right rear woofer +/-) and 11/12 (left rear woofer +/-) are indeed the right stock amp wires you should tape into to feed your sub amp. If your stock rear woofers are working then these 5/6 and 11/12 pins provide a signal. If they provide a signal and you still do not get any sound out of your sub amp then either your LOC does not work or your Sub amp does not work. What sub amp are you using by the way?

Problem right there. I using +12V powersupply off the connector to power the loc and for its remote, and for remote on the amp. What should I do, use the 12v off the connector ONLY for the Remote on the loc and amp? And find real 12v to power the loc off the battery? So I have to use both 5/6 and 11/12? Or was that either. If both, how do I connect them both togeather, and wire it into the loc.

Also Am I connecting the wires off the connector into the loc correctly? The wires one + and one -, i plug into the cut end of the rca cable. - going to white, and + going to red. Then the other end plugs into the loc. Is this correct?

Thanks Alpac, reallly really appreciate the quick response :)

What LOC and Sub amp do you have?

tbal69 03-11-2007 01:43 PM

Loc.. some cheap stuff, not sure of the brand... It has high level, low level inputs, bassboost, hz, L and R channel adjustments... Amp is clarion apx200.2, sub is clarion pwr series 350rms 4ohm svc, Also have a JL 4ohm sub, not sure of the model, but its 250-300rms.

I cannot find a detailed documentation on this specific Clarion model but what I found seems to indicate that it has both high level and low level inputs which in such a case would NOT NEED you to use a LOC. You can connect directly 5/6 and 11/12 to the high level (speaker level) inputs of your sub amp. As I could not find any documentation on this sub amp I am not sure what connector format it uses for high level input. Sometime the high level and low level inputs are physically separated. Normally low level inputs are RCA connections while high level are not. But on some other amps high and low level inputs use the same connectors and there is a switch that you need to set to indicate if you want to use high versus low inputs. I also found out that it was bridgeable so, since you want to use it to feed one single subwoofer you will have to bridge it. You should have 2 channels outputs on this amp, + & - left channel and + & - right channel. To bridge the amp just connect your sub woofer speaker + to the left channel + connector of your sub amp and the speaker – to the right channel + connector of your sub amp. The sub amp constant +12v need to be obtained from the battery. The remote +12v for the sub amp can be obtained from the pin 2 (normally white wire) out of the 12pins stock amp connector. I strongly suggest that you use a voltmeter to check the + 12v wires.

OK I found more info about your amp. Indeed there is no need for a LOC if you use the high level inputs. The high level inputs are separated from the low levels. The high level inputs are on the opposite side of the RCA (low level) inputs. RCA are on the left while the high level inputs are on the right. Also you need to set the INPUT SELECT switch to BRIDGED if you use your sub amp to feed one single sub woofer

Here is the doc I found on line. Is that your amp?

Hey, I am kinda confused. Where do I plug in the wires that i tapped from 5/6 and 11/12? Do i still use both or just one will do? Do i still attach them to the rca then plug it directly into the amp via rca, because there is no other place on the amp to plug the tapped wires into. There are 4 other places, but those are wire the speakers/subs (in my case one sub) which will be bridged. So i dont need to use that loc? Also i got remote from pin3 i believe not 2...

On my wiring diagram for the 12pins connector (on the stock amp) 3 is ground and 2 is remote +12v. Easy to check with a voltmeter.
Did you check out the documentation I sent the link to in my previous post? Does that look like your amp? You need to connect your 5/6 and 10/11 to the high level input connectors on the right side. Is there any way you can take a clear pic of your amp so as I can take a look at the different connections?
