i will keep V26.09 an have no concerns about my hardware.

Hello Henry. Can you tell me how you were able to check the CPU temperature of the Nav unit?

Just before getting rid of the 3D view the GPS receiver quit working while in V26; no satellites were shown, map stuck in my house although I was miles away. Changing the 3D to 2D made the GPS come back...

No more 3D experiments for me...

i taped a sensor onto the cpu, laid the wire to the my digital multimeter and observed it while driving.

I think everybody is getting a little bit too scared

Let´s resume all facts we have:

1: birdview is possible :)
2: The birdview "update" is older than the original V26 because:
- somebody posted the build
- some features get lost that were definately new with the V26 (automatical rerouting...)
3: nobody had a crash of the system till now - and when the software striked an update to the official V26 helped
4: When we update to the official V26 the birdview keeps working - and the official version killed no navi-system. Unfortunately the view gets lost after a change of the view.
5: with the official V26 and birdview everything else works perfect:)
6: Somwhere in the CD structure of the official V26 is the "path" to the birdview available - but turned of by BMW.:tsk:

So in conclusion there should be (theoretically) the possibility to create a "cracked" official V26 CD where the menue of switching between the 3 possible views is possible. The only thing we need is somebody who understands enough of the IT things :goodluck: (additionally this quiet inteligent guy (or lady) should then also find the security thing that keeps us away from using our own splashscreen)

So in principle:

Please MTV, pimp my MK4....:mantis:

@ HenryH:

Since you already made the efforts to open you MK4 and taping a sensor on the CPU: is there a theoretical possibility to replace the CPU with a faster one or replace the ram with a bigger one (it should normaly use industrial standard components) - then the Birdview could run really smooth

i think it is not a problem to replace the cpu with a faster one, but only this is will have no effect. i dont know how to change the bus-clock and other nessesary parameters. there is no documentation about this hardware available.

i tryed to crack the navboot. to exchange the pictures in the file is possible, but i could not create a correct crc, so my version is not running. i need a disassembler and compiler für OS-9 / OS-9000 modules but i found nothing in the web.

Errr, the splash screen has already been successfully hacked!

Read from about page 13.

I was one of the first to load the V26.09A and so far it's been every bit as stable for me as V26.

Now that the team has successfully hacked the splash screen the next task is to do exactly what you suggest, which is to hack V26 to enable the "Perspective" mode. There's a separate thread created to work on this effort. See http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...-v26-code.html

Yes, but if the problem is in the birdview code, i.e. it overloads some chip, then using the V26 still causes the same problems. But that 60% permanent failure rate was not clearly explained, I sure would like to know if the units failed immediately after the update or only after some time. If they failed immediately, then we have no problem since I think all units have worked after the update. I have reverted back to V25 and then to official V26 and I'm going to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks...
