Many times I'll be holding the door open for my wife so that she can push the stoller through and people on the other side just waltz right through the open door cutting my wife off. Usually they don't even acknowledge you or even give you a smile - like I was the doorman or something.

Here's the kicker, it's usually women who do this.

I guess they're use to people holding doors open for them.

One time it happened my wife sarcastically said "Thank YOU!" and this cow and her teenage daugher turned around, said "Your welcome" and gave us the finger!

And I thought the US had white trash

I hate to point this out but the incident in question happened in Buffalo. That's not to say that they weren't Canadian tourist like we were.

i open doors as a matter of courtesy for males and females. for me it is just a matter of courtesy, not gender. and i always say thank you if someone opens the door for me.

how about when you let someone cut in front of you (in traffic) and they neglect to give you the "thank you wave"...drives me CRAZY!

the way i look at it; it is far better to be the courteous one than the rude boor...even if it is more frustrating.

The car wave is another one that drives me crazy! I could go on for hours how rude people are.

I have noticed more of this in North America. Not as much when I am in Europe-UK. I would like to know from our members outside US if this is true.

Did anyone catch the episode of Hold Your Enthusiasm where Larry David holds the elevator for some girl and she gets his time slot ahead of him at the doctor's office. Funny show, funny episode.

Whew... I thought something was odd about that story when I saw you're from Calgary.

Our experience since we've moved up to Canada would have been more along the lines of the person inside rushing to open the door for my wife and smiling at her, rather than barging through. Another hilarious thing is that it took my wife a long time to figure out that when people would wave at her after she let them merge or change lanes in front of her that they were saying thank you and not flipping her off as they would have been back home.

I didn't mention the location in my original post because I didn't think it was relevant. Maybe I was wrong?

Generally I find people are curteous in most places but it's the odd rude incident that seem to stick in my mind and bug me. Human nature I guess.

And don't get me started about Calgary drivers.
