Why expect a thank you though? Why not hold the door, etc for the sake of doing it? Don't get me wrong, I do believe the right thing to do is to say it, but if I get mad over little things like this, it'll be a loong day.

I'm with you on this. There are so many rude and discourteous people no matter where you live, so why let that bother you?
If you can't change them, why bother?

I'm not mad because I didn't get a thank you - that happens every day. I'm mad because I opened the door for my wife pushing the stroller and some moron cut in front of her like she had a right to go through before anyone else. Then to top it off she gave us the finger afterwards. That doesn't happen every day.

I completely understand your point of view. My feelings wouldn't be any different if I were in your situation. When I voiced my opinion that applied to when I'm by myself.
