Why I was stopped

I was going west on the LIE out in eastern Suff.

It was late at night and I was all buy my self.

The cop came out of no where, bing the dector went off and a min latter his light went on. I was doing about 69, he wrote it for 72. I think the ticket was all about making money. I also think he saw the lights on the detector. I may of been dead in anycase.

The other day in NYC was doing 65 in 50 I saw the cop I my mirror and slowed down. I think if the cop saw the detector, he may of pulled me over.

In general I don't think the detector helps much with lazer and instant on.

radar detector or not, it's not good to speed in Suffolk. They have more speed traps out there than any place i've ever driven, and I agree, it's an income generation scheme for the towns. Around Exit 51 there is always a trap. (I have family out in the Stony Brook area, i put the cruise on the vette on 55 as soon as I hit the Nassau/Suffolk border, I take no chances)

Suff Speeding

I drive to eastern suff all the time.

The Cops on the LIE are bad but you have so many drivers speeding the odds are low.

Once I get to Sunrise I set my cruise controll to 63. This eastern section has state cops that really are in the speed trap game. You can always find a cop at Westhampton and another in the bushes before Hampton Bays (east bound). The Hampton Bays trap is really bad since its after a big hill and you are tired.

In the summer it much easer, some city slicker will always be driving fast and not having local knowllege, they keep the cops away from me (I hope).

That being said, I still don't understand your paranoia about getting stopped for having a detector in NY, they are legal here. I socialize with a lot of cops, both Nassau County and NYPD and none of them have ever said that they pull people over for having detectors any more or less than peope without them. In fact, they state quite the opposite, they don't care.

I'm curious, where were you when you got pulled over? Did the officer say that you being in possession of a detector had any bearing on him pulling you over or is that an assumption by you?
I believe detectors are legal everywhere in the states now but D.C. ... also illegal in Ontario, Canada (perhaps other provinces, as well)

They help greatly. If laser is used on any vehicle in front of you, you will get a signal alerting you to slow down. Now if you are the only vehicle on the road, best bet is to keep your eyes open.

I hear all this hype about V1 - how is it better than any other detector. I've read about the front-rear sensors etc, does that really matter? Radar/Lazer bounce off of everything around you anyway. And if you are the only car on the road, then nothing helps.

Who "really" knows about these - what do they do that others don't?
