I heard that you can swap out your existing dish & receivers for new 5LNB equipment via rebates (wtih possibility of making a little extra). However, I'm not sure if this would cover equipment that you do NOT get from DirecTV, which I hope is not the case. The only downside to upgrading is that the new equipment that DirecTV will offer is their own and doesn't have Tivo!!! That makes me wanna wait a while.

Back on the Mtn, we have DISH, and they do offer a diff dish and/or upgraded receiver/PVR unit for HD, but it's still pretty damn pricey, for the hardware and monthly service, in that area at least.
The same stlr also sells DirectTV, (gee, makes sense to me, lol!), and he told me that Direct was either tossing Tivo or, would have their own DVP/PVR system "soon". This was in late Nov. of this past year and all this is Fwiw. After watching HD here in FL on our 60" Sony,NoBaloney SXRD, I may have to upgrade the big TV and DISH service to HD when we get back to the Mtn., later this spring. HD really makes one wonder why SD is still around, lol! BR,md

I have used a Samsung HD tuner before (no DVR) and I didn't like it at all. Remote sucked, menu sucked, it all sucked. Maybe I'm too Tivo biased. Anyone know who actually manufactures the DirecTV equipment?

Sorta off track, but our DVP/PVR sat thing from DISH, does a helluva job, imo: searches are easy, menu(s) are fast and a snap, recording is simple, etc. The only down side is my 4 yr old version does not allow for viewing another station, while recording; the newer version does.
Here in FL, our ComCrap HD/PVR box allows recording while watching another channel, but menus and stuff are not on same level as DISH, imo. My neighbors back on the mtn have Tivo with their DirectTV sys.; not in the same league as DISH PVR or even cable PVRs, imo. I would not wanna be a Tivo high up suit, right now. My 2Cts.
