Ferrari running costs

I go through phases when I think I need to get myself a ferrari. I'm in one of those phases right now and I'm wondering about running costs. I'm considering a 360 Modena ad have no idea about service intervals, costs etc.

Anybody out there had any experience?

Would the Lambo Gallardo be a cheaper car to run?

Had a 911 Turbo S and found it all very easy - thankfully fuel out here is still very reasonable!! It's just not a Ferrari or Lambo though.

Thanks.

I am in very early stages of research in this area, But I believe SANguru is in advanced stages. I am sure he will chime in. We do have some Lambo owners on this board.

Please forgive me, but if you can afford those cars....????

I find car service is really asking, "How good is your dealer?" and "How near is the dealer to me?"

With buying any car, I find my main criteria is "What kind if driving will I be doing?" Of course, if you can afford a whole stable of cars, each to suit a different mood, go for it and good luck!

expensive.... i have 13000 miles on my 355 and had to do the major service which has to be done between 3-5yrs depending on milage etc europe say 3yrs north america say 5yrs anyway service runs about $5-6,000 i added a tubi exhaust which i got a deal on and cost $2800. the only problem i had was i had to replace one of the ECU's at a cost of $2800 i get the car serviced twice a year and it costs around $1000 but if anything goes wron you can bet its not cheap so;
First year if you have to do service $5-6000
upgrades and very very expensive brake, exhaust system etc
after that $1000 each service and keep your fingers crossed
they also eat rear tires and i am told F1 gearbox on pre 2001 cars if the pump goes its $15-18,000 yes you are reading right.
good luck they are great cars and so much fun.

Thanks for that f355b - great to see some figures put to it.

The big question must be - do you still enjoy it after all that?

I would be looking at a late model 360 and it will probably be an F1 as there are very few manuals over here. I'm hoping that a late model will not have the same gearbox pump issues - very pricey.

Would be good to hear some similar stories on the Lambo as well to make a comparison. Do they have a longer service period than the ferrari?

Not put off yet, but thinking very hard about it.

late model 360's are fine but still have belts to change and thats an engine out service would be best to buy one that has had the service done i think your going to be lloking at every 3yrs in Dubai. On the later F1's pre 2004 i think the only thing you need is to make sure its had the software upgrade for the gearbox try to find one with tubi and challange rear grill in the hot weather it does help to keep engine bay cool and it gets bloody hot back there. Lambos are cheaper to run as there service costs are a lot lower and no engine out service. just for a guide its 22hrs labour to drop engine!!! and i love the car more now than ever.
Great vid if i were in the market i would get a 360 challenge stradale hands down car is off the charts

son of enzo

my parents owned a dino for 17 years. They found a local mechanic who did all the work in his free time for a reasonable fee... in return of course he got to test drive it... The exterior design of the dino is spectacular and paved way for the current ferrari designs.75% of the dinos made(3900) are red . my parents was metallic silver. The dino was named after the son of enzo (alfredino) who died at an early age(24). The dino has lived in the shadow of the more powerful , but less nimble ferrari models. Now that shadow is cast by the enzo supercar. The ties that bind enzo and dino,be they mechanical or familial, will always be especially deep and profoundly personal

love the Dino stunning car. The running cost were cheaper as its a 2.4L V6 Fiat engined car. I love those photos i hate it when people change the badges to ferrari, the car was a Dino 246 and cars never left the factory with ferrari badges. My last 355 was silver that silver 246 is to die for love it.
