thats a good point about S class copying the 7. Its got the bangle buy i drive thing and shifter on column. That is what everyone was complaining about with the 7 and saying bmw will lose all there 7 sales. Now everyone and there mother is copying The 7 series. Lexus and mercedes especially. i just find that ironic.

I never liked the body style of 7 series.

I've owned an E65 for 3 yrs. now, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone thinking of buying one. Mercedes and Lexus have pretty much copied the 7 in their new models, so it goes to show who the leader in design is. But IMO, no other company has ever duplicated how the 7 drives. That said, if this is going to be your "Mom's ride," then what kind of car does she like? If she is anything like my mom (who still can't program a VCR), then maybe the technical features aren't as important as comfort and overall ease of use. From my own experience, both the MBZ's we've owned have been POS, and I'll probably never own one again.

All maintenance costs on the MB are out of pocket. Maintenance on the BMW will cost you nothing for 4/50. That should make this an easy decision

MB is designed for passengers and BMW is designed for drivers, even the 7 series. So you have to define what kind of driver you mum is and then decide which one is suitable for you mum.

How about we take one of each, fill them up with 97 octane Blaufrei in Bremerhaven, and see which one can get to the Austrian border first? That should sort a few things...
