Portable air compressors from Costco?

Has anyone bought or used one of these Vector Airpro Compressor/Inflator Combo from Costco? It's about the size of a portable drill but is rated at 120 psi for $37.99. Looks like a pretty handy tool. I haven't seen these in the stores, so it's probably available online only.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...opnav=&browse=

While in Costco, I also saw a small combination 120 psi compressor and battery charger/jumper. Small square metal box about the size of a shoe box with fittings for an air line and self coiling jumper cables. Also around $40. This product is not available online - it looks like an in-store only purchase.

Anybody buy either of these products? Any feedback? Good buy? Bad Buy?

Regards, Mike

I don't have any first hand knowledge of those products, BUT, the good thing about Costco is that as long as you keep the receipts you can return ANYTHING, and quite a long time after the purchase as well. If you're thinking about getting it, just get it, if it turns out to be junk, take it back, no problem.

I'm looking at a hydraulic racing jack at Costco so that I can get under my Vette when I need to, just haven't had the time to go pick it up.

THough I haven't used that unit in particular, most handheld air compressors (tankless) are hardly worth their parts. However, Costco generally sells pretty good items, and their return policy is indeed 2nd to none. As long as you won't mind a possible trip for return, it's a win-win.

I would say that particular one doesn't look that good but is certainly better than nothing when you're down a few PSI. This one from Sears is bigger but looks much better at the same price. I would avoid anything rechargeable. I know the Costco one is also corded but it just looks like it would be good for inflating your kid's pool toys and soccer balls but not tires.

I have a similar one that I keep in the right side compartment of the X5. It's great for emergencies. I bought the $80 All-Trade 3HP/5 gallon air compressor. It's plenty good for inflating tires and doing light airtool jobs. I even use it with a pistol attachment to blow excess water out of the trim areas after bathing the X5.

I agree with the "get it you can always retun it idea" Let us know how it works. Might be good but without the stress test no opinion can be given.

I've been toying with the idea of getting an air compressor from Costco or Sears (Craftsman). Be a nice thing to have at the track, auto-x's, or just to use air tools in the driveway.

Like everyone said, Costco is usually pretty cool about their returns. Just remember, chances are you'll get store credit as opposed to your money back.

I have never had a store credit. But then again I always have the credit put back on my American Express Card. So easy that way.

Thanks for all the responses...

I probably have the best example of Costco's super return policy. My mom bought a Bissell carpet cleaner from Costco. She used it until it died. Not remembering when she purchased it, I took it back to Costco (still dripping wet, hair wrapped around the bristles, you get the picture...). The returns supervisor couldn't track down the model number, so after a great deal of research determined that the model was over 3 years old and had a 1 yr mfg warranty. What did she do? She gave me return credit equal to the price of a new Bissell carpet cleaner that she had in inventory - a value of $185. I didn't push the issue, she simply made the offer without any coercion. When I showed my mom her new carpet cleaner, she was amazed because she paid only $150 for the first carpet cleaner.

Is Costco the best or what?

Anyways, the compressor that I saw in the Costco store looks alot like the Craftsman compressor pointed out by PersonaNonGrata with one big exception - it also has cables for a battery slow charge. However, the Craftsman 300 PSI is definitely an advantage over 120 PSI. Still not enough to power air tools, but good enough to inflate tires.

I'll do a little more shopping. Whatever I end up with, I'll report back.

I'll take the store credit, can always spend it on T-bones and Mobil 1
