Air Tools: How much pressure do you need?

How much pressure do you typically need for air tools?

Depends on the tool, most operate well under 100psi. More important will be the CFM rating on the compressor. Tools that run constantly such as spary guns, will require more airflow than say an impact wrench. What tools are you looking to use? What is are the specs on your compressor?

You can run most air tools at 60-90 psi, the tool itself usually has a specific operation psi and this will be indicated on it. All my tools are set for 90psi, I have a 120psi capacity tank which can handle most medium the light-heavy duty tools. I have striped cars down to the frame with this compressor and tool set, never had a problem.

OSHA used to require 60PSI restriction. Of course most shops use more because it's quicker. It's also why the threads are stripped and why you can't remove your flat. Use the air tool, but do the final tightening by hand.

I just used some for the first time the other day. I was having trouble till my boy Frankie, 20 yrs a body work man...took one look at the 33 gal compressor and told me to stop being a pussy and crank it up...110-125psi and everything worked beautifully...the guys that strip stuff are just being careless and fast. It is pretty easy to know when to back off. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm don't need to use these tools that often, but they're def come in handy when the time comes. I'm staying low budget, so here's what I'm looking at. What do you think?

LOL every time I see an Air Impact Wrench I think of the scene in Wayne's World when Garth is playing around with one and ends up dragging it along the entire length of a car. Then walks up to Wayne and says "I think it's time to go now!"

That way if something happens you will have life time replacement. Also to run that stuff you need more than four gallan capicity...something more like in the range of ten gallons...do you self a favor and hit Sears and ask one of the sales people. I really think that your not goint to get enough juice out of that. Also your $150 b4 tax...if you spend a little more you can get the Sears 20 gallon and a free tool set. If I were you I would at least check that out first. IMO...Good luck.
