Recently one new report said building more refineries is in effect already happining because oil companies are expanding the ones they already have. They went on to say that the real problem is that there are to few companies thus no competition.

Let's say oil was far more plentiful and less expensive than it is, so cost and access was not an issue.

Isn't the bigger issue the moral, economic, social, and economic challenge humankind has to move beyond carbon fuels?

And who do you think is going to do the driilling?

Is our government going to form its own oil company, purchase the equipment, and do their own drilling? And will these reserves become nationalized and belong to the American public then? Doubtful.

Instead, the same companies like Exxon-Mobil, who are already owned and controlled by the Saudis, are going to do the drilling.

There is plenty of oil (for now). They can pump more if they want. They choose not to in order to keep the price high. What they need to do is build more refinaries and pump more oil. But they have no incentive to do so unlness the government forces them to do so, and since they control the government, that is never going to happen.

Yes, the high oil prices will now make us find other forms of energy.

We started doing this with the last gas shortage and then forgot about it.

The real benifit is not having to buy oil from the middle east!

Lets get to work and find a other forms of energy!

You may want to give yourself until lunchtime tomorrow. Don't forget to come up with a substitute for plastic, fiberglas, fertilizer, and industrial lubricants.

In defense of folks from Iceland, this is a country unusually blessed with a small population and great geothermal resources. The lucky Lutheran fishmongers get to spin their turbines for free.

The point is that it's gonna be difficult no matter how you cut it and it isn't gonna be solved on X5world.

I don't think people when they say "stop using oil" think of all the things oil is used for, gasoline is just the tip.
