Crash pics

We all know that cops have a tough and dangerous job. There are plenty of idiots out there who are willing to fight, stab, or shoot a cop. Those risks are very real but people sometimes forget that they often get hurt or are killed in vehicle collisions.

Below are some pictures of a Sheriff's patrol car that was involved in a head on collision a few nights ago. It occured at 2:15 am on a quiet road. The other driver drifted over into the deputy's lane and hit him head on. The driver of that car was a woman who was 5 months pregnant. She and the baby died in hospital. It is unknown why she crossed into the other lane but my guess is she fell asleep. FWIW, she was driving a Subaru of some kind.

Looking at the pictures you would think that the deputy also died. The damage is massive. (The roof and doors that had to be cut off to extricate the deputy have been deposited on to the wreckage. The photos were taken where the unit is now stored.) Amazingly, the deputy is alive and well. He is injured but nothing life threatening and nothing that should permanently disable him. You can see in the photos just how crunched the driver's compartment is. Luckily there wasn't anyone in the backseat or else he or she would be dead. (You can see the cage intrudes right into the rear compartment.)

Use your seatbelt and support your local law enforcement agencies.

How tragic.

Do you know if the roof was cut to free the officer or was it sheared during the accident?

It was cut to get him out. It took about 45 minutes to extricate him.

Seems like a really bad accident, so sorry to hear that the pregnant woman did not make it, nor her baby. It just goes to show that one must be very careful and allways drive w/ a seat belt on. Good thing the deputy was OK and the patroll car saved his life.
Be safe and allways obey local traffic laws.

WOW. Wonder what the combined speed of that accident was...that is some serious damage.

Not to high jack but that guy is one lucky MoFo...my Dad's house is right by rt 146 and on Saturday afternoon in the rain up here, a car hydro planed acrossed the median which is about 25 ft across into on coming traffic and was launched via the little divit in the median and took roof off the other car and then landed on its roof. Both drivers perished on site....a 23 year woman and a 53 year old woman...it sounded awful and looked worse...some times life and death is a matter of inches and that officer needs to count his blessings.

What a horrific crash.

That sheriff is certainly lucky to be alive. Too bad about the other driver, and her unborn child.

Good words of advice, Mr. NonGrata.

It is truly amazing he is alive. It's a very scary thought that you don't have to be doing any wrong to be involved in such a horrific accident.

On a lighter note, I support my local law enforcement every chance I get.

Wow, sorry to see those pictures. But I just almost got hit by a patrol car this morning. Was at a four way stop, no other cars at the intersection, made a left and out of the corner of my eyes, saw this patrol car coming along at around 60mph with lights flashing and no siren. I wasn't going fast, so was able to stop while he went by on the right. He waved sorry and we were both on our way. I can see if I was less attentive, he could have hit me very easily. Be safe out there!
