Rejoining the Ranks?

Hi Gang!

Driver8 here...It's been 1 year, 5 months, and 16 days, give or take, since I last passed as an X5 owner. I sold her to a fine fellow in Chicago, and I know she's in good hands, but I've missed her more than any other car I've ever owned (and I've owned a few). IMO, best car, bar none.

I gotta be honest...I'm not an Accord guy. While my wife's new Civic Si is one smokin' little hot rod, the Accord EX-V6 I got last year is, well, not me. It's the kind of car your parents want you to buy. Don't get me wrong, it's an exceptionally comfortable and competent ride, but it's kinda like marrying a CPA after dating strippers. It's all in the attitude.

So, in the meantime over the past few months, I've been sneaking peeks over BMWUSA's CPO website, TraderOnline and various other sites looking for "the one." I may have found her last week - a very nice '04 Sterling over Black 3.0i SPP on Friday, and I hope to close the deal this week. (There's a fine '04 Toledo/Truffle 4.4i out there too that caught my eye...I simply love that color combination.) I'm engine-neutral. I only drive 10 minutes to work one-way now, and for the heavy towing around the farm we're picking up an F250 King Ranch diesel in a week or two, so I don't need the big engine daily driver. (My '02 4.4i ran like a scalded cat...I would miss that, I suppose.)

More than anything else, I look forward to being a card-carrying member of this group again. I've not been a part of a virtual group that is more cohesive, more knowledgable, more fraternity-like, and, well, more FUN than this one. I can't tell you that I ever spent time on the phone with the Audi or Benz or Honda guys like I did guys on this forum (SuperGreg, X5Monkey, SanGuru...here's to ya, bros!) I'm looking forward to coming home. Maybe I should change my name from Driver8 to Prodigal Son :-)

I'll keep y'all posted.
Mike

That great news Mike! If you can, go for the '04 4.4! I've had an '01 3.0 before and got an '04 4.4 Valvetronic and saw that they basically have the same MPG if not driven hard.

It's always nice to have the extra ump when you need it. Welcome back!

Welcome back. You can still hang out here even if you don't have an X5

Good to hear you're coming back. How about looking into leasing a brand spanking new X5? I hear the lease deals on X5's are outstanding, especially in the twilight of the E53. Just a suggestion....

Hello again Mike. I'm glad to see that you are getting closer and closer to getting back into an X. For the record, you are alumni here, and don't need to own an X to take part in our fraternity .

I wish I would have checked in enough to have participated in the DC get together. DC is only 3.5-4 hrs from me, and I would have loved to have gotten to meet everyone. I bet the next one is on the Left Coast?

My dealer told me that X3 lease is at $460/month with zero down.
