Guess who said the following...

"As a left-handed hitter, I wiped him out. That's it. And in the baseball world, Babe Ruth is everything, right? I got his slugging percentage, his on-base percentage, his walks and I'll take his home runs. That's it. Don't talk about him no more.... I'm the next generation of the Negro leagues. Hank Aaron can have those 755 home runs.''

You guessed it, good ol' Barry Bonds....after hitting 714 HR he denied he ever said it and that it must have been a fabrication (much like his current HR record).

I believe Mr. Bonds says a lot of things for various reasons. But it appears that much it is said to stir the pot of the media who he regards with a certain degree of contempt. I'm not Mr. Bonds but more often than not i have seen the media perform what could be regarded as senseless gibberish disguised as an interview. Are my comments ment to absolve Mr. Bonds and his behaviour? Nope. I just don't pay a lot of attention to any of it because it's all a big show that i prefer to watch from the sidelines and get a good laugh from. As I watch the pot ( the media) calling the kettle black i can't help but be amused. So I will I'll take my seat attend the show and watch Mr. Bonds hit the home runs and as i do i will remember that end the end it won't be me who will judge him. I take that energy and work on myself.

Bonds is a scumbag, everything he does he makes a racial issue out of it (even though his ex-wife was white and I belive his wife or girlfriend now is), he is no role model, he cheated plain and simple. If he does break Hank Aarons record so be it, he'll forever go down as a cheated and a crybaby.

I agree w/ Quicksilver; I have no illwill towards Bonds and the media created most of the hate people have for him. Because Bonds treated the media like crap, the media has always felt to treat him the same way IMO.

I think he's one of the greatest of all time. Too bad he won't be remembered as such. And as for the steroids thing, well he probably did use them, as did many others. Personally, since MLB never had steroids as something thats illegal until recently, I don't blame him or anyone else who used the Cream and the Clear or whatever else. MLB & Bud need to take some of the blame too b/c they can't seem to get anything right.

I agree somewhat. Bonds was great and he cheated, but so did lots of other guys, so you can't just single him out simply for cheating. But he was, and is, a major prick, and for that he deserves the response he has received. He has never been a gracious or appreciative player.

Ther are three phrases that Derek Jeter lives by that makes him beloved:

1) Be Humble
2) Play Like You've Been There Before
3) Know That It Can All End Today

OK, so I am not sure that he lives by those phrases, but I have an associate with sport, and I know for a fact that those are 3 rules that many great players live by. Jeter certainly lives this, and whether you like him or not, you can't argue thr above. When it comes to Bonds, he knows none of this, and it shows. He got, and is getting, what he deserves, imho.

having seen some of the shannigans and having met Bonds (have a buddy who is closely tied with them), I have to disagree. How would you like it if you go to the clubhouse 5 mins from walking in, you are completely surrounded by journalists instigating? Once I was in the club house the year he broke the home run record. He just got in and started changing and a reporter gets in his face and ask him if he thinks he is better than everybody else and if he thinks black guys can hit more home runs than white guys. I was shocked and appalled that that idiot from Vibe magazine even had the nerve to ask such a question. If you guys don't know or see half of this, don't assume. I'm not saying the Barry is an angel or role model but such type of harassment on a day in day out basis gets old. I can completely understand why he hates/belittles the media.

And thats why he responds as he does. As i said most of the media are babbling idiots. Barry happens to be the one individual who calls it like he sees it when people ask stupid questions. Most people would rather a person be gracious and just over look it but i guess thats not Barry. Don't for a minute think he does not expect to get heat for it.

Yes, this is my point exactly. The media made him into this 'bad' person, although some of it is brought onto himself.
Maybe you can bring race into it, and maybe not. Personally I don't care.
Unfortunately, you never hear or see the questions that any athlete has to answer, let alone know who which idiot media member actually asked the question.
