Exclamation America vs Italy

Well as you know, that ended in a 1 to 1 draw.

I apologize to anyone of Italian descent, or any other form of connection in advance.

I think the Italians played like dirt. They kept on trying to score a play with offsides hoping that just once out of those 10 or so times, the ref wouldn't see.

Not only that, but the ref was most evidently an Italian lover. There was complete unfairness towards the American team.

While I think the Americans lacked experience and made many mistakes, they played fairly, with honor, and without giving up. That goalie, Keller, is world class.

Sure you guys aren't gonna go on in the World Cup, but I am very happy that the world saw that one of the "favorite" teams could easily be upset by a weaker team, even despite all the unfairness of the refs.

The Italians deserved to only draw - hell the Italians deserved to outright lose. Calling off that would-be goal was complete bull$hit. Mcbryde was merely a distraction to the goalie, and did not touch the ball. The ref just decided it was best for the Americans not to win.

Well screw the ref, and screw the arrogant Italian soccer team.

Ref should definitely be given a red card of his own.

Mmmmmmh, I'm sorry I'm not italian descendant or related, but it looks you have seen another match. Just look at stats, and we in S.America are not as stats oriented as you are:

ITA USA
13 Fouls 24
7 Corner Kicks 3
1 Free Kicks 1
11 Offsides 1
2 Yellow Cards 2
1 Red Cards 2
54% Ball Possession 46%

There are some players like that guy Onyewu that just don't how to play fair. on the other side, Donovan is a great player. If italians tried to score and were caught on off-side, maybe that wasn't their fault, but US defense good positioning.....

Yes, the ref should be disciplined. The only red card that was justified was the one against the Italian player who clearly meant to elblow Mc.Bryde.

As far as the goal that was called back: as bad as the ref was, he DID make the right call. Mc.Bryde was NOT called for offside; he was called for interference, which he clearly was. That WAS the right call.

Let's hope we beat Ghana, and that Italy beats the Czech Republic.

I think you missed the point: that ref, (who was South American I believe) from Uruguay, was trying to be the star of the game when he should have let the players on the field play. I heard one commentator on the Spanish coverage mention that ref was suspended before as well, so far I have not been able to confirm it, but I bet we hear everything there is to hear about that mook's background in the soccer press.

He handed out so many cards I thought he would run out, justice would be served if that ref was sent back to Uruguay on the next plane.

You're right JV, he was suspended a few years ago for "irregularities" and you know who complained? His fellow refs... that guy is an embarrassment to the sport.

I don't think ref robbed the goal.

I was in downtown Kaiserslautern last night watching the game. It was crazy to say the least. There were some bad calls against the US for sure. The place I was at had mostly Germans, Italians and some Americans. It was funny to see how the Germans chanted for the United States to win. It was just awesome is all I can say.
