Very true in some ways...

but I think that the underlying reason for those things happening, is not the ring, but the lack of true unconditional love...

That is horrible WAG! I would say that is totally not true, at least in some mens case, for us (me and my now-x) It was never appearence that really ruined it but his infedility and trust issues, Hes that kind of man, but I am not, so I think you have to find the 50% who love you for you inside and out and not just out.
