I play both the Xbox 360 and on the PC....right now I am totally hooked on Dawn of War, what a game the best of everything rolled in one...as turned based games go this was the RTS game of the year...online against peps from all over the world there is some intense action.

Update!, I just forked out $350 on a Geforce 6600 GT 256MB DDR3 AGP card and even Oblivion runs smoothly on my 3 year old system!

So before you get talked into thinking AGP is useless now that PCI-Express is here, and you need to rebulid your system to run the latest games, think again! A high end AGP card with the latest drivers will revitalize even the oldest of 1.5 - 2 Ghz systems

I'm running HL2 in 1280X1024 with everything on maximum and its silky smooth.

Excellent X5Jones! Nice, isn't it?

I've always prefered the NVidia cards myself. Much better driver support. That GeForce 7800 I got really made a difference for me too. I'll probably be able to go at least another year on my 1.5 year old 8x AGP box.

You can get 6600GT with 256MB and the AGP interface for under $150. Where did you even "find" one for $350?!

I agree that AGP is far from outdated. Of course unless you go into cards like the X1900XTX, X1950XTX, 7800GTX, 7900GTX or 7950GTX, then the AGP will have sufficient bandwidth.

I'm using a Sapphire Radeon X850XT PE PCI-E with a Zalman VF700-Cu all-copper heatsink/fan to run in near silence. The stock Arctic Cooling-based reference cooler made noise like a prop engine.

I run HL2 at 1280x1024 AA4X AF8X Texture Max at an average of 75FPS. I do an average of 60FPS in BF2 under the same conditions.

It will be soon time for a new system I guess. But I want to sit out Intel's Conroe (Core 2 Duo).

Instead I'm waiting for their quad-core Kentsfield and Clovertown pieces with the 1333FSB!

Sorry, I forgot to add that it is in Australian Dollars, but I'm not sure of the conversion rate these days so I can't give you a US/CAD price.

My long answer...

I used to be a huge PC game freak. Unfortunately because of constant computer problems, I had to move to a MAC and abandoned all CPU gaming. I still do some console gaming but it's just not the same..

The best game I ever played and was totally addicted too, was actually a game that was hosted on AOL. It's downfall was when AOL went unlimited for $20/month back in 1996 or so. The massive usage crashed the game and it was never the same again.

The game was called AIR WARRIOR by Konami I think. It was a WWII (mostly fight simulator) where you had to take off, land, dog-fight, bomb, and take over enemy bases. As it was an online game, it was like being in the middle of a constant war. Dog fighting skills were a must and there were some really good pilots out there. It was a game totally ahead of it's time and I miss it. I often find myself buying flight games in the hopes of getting some glimpse of the game of old but am always let down.
There were three teams (countries) A, B and C. and country A would fight B and C. Country C would fight A and B, etc. for bases.
It was the closest thing to a simulator that I have ever played. Graphics were a bit dated by today's standard but no one cared.

It is unfortunate that games have not gotten better. I think they have gotten much worse. Remember: Police Quest or Full Throttle or the early Lucas Arts games like TIE FIGHTER. Even the first MECH WARRIORS were cool. And the old tank simulators and APACHE helicopter games.

The late 90's was the pinnacle for PC gaming. It was before online play was prevelant but the stand alone games were insane. Like when Rainbow 6 first came out !!

DAME CONSOLES HAVE RUINED EVEN THE STAND UP ARCADE'S.. When is the last time a good stand up game came out? Dance Dance Revolution !! Come on, what the fuck is that shit.. Remember SUPER SPRINT. Or the Skateboarding game 720 (SKATE OR DIE!!)

I could care less that the new FOOTBALL GAME lets you grab the crotch of the center or the new hockey lets you drive the fucking ZAMBONE. Or the new baseball game lets you pick your crotch... GAMES TODAY JUST SUCK..

And yes, occassionally there is a brake out game like Grand Theft Auto and Gran Tourismo but even those are mediocre at best..

I could care less about how good the graphics have gotten, or how cute the stupid story boards are. I don't give a shit about the story. I want to GAME.

Sorry about the rant and hijack.

DAME CONSOLES HAVE RUINED EVEN THE STAND UP ARCADE'S..Some what agree. But cosoles have made video game Non-geek freindly and contributed the fact gaming revenue surpassing the Movie Business in 2000

I could care less about how good the graphics have gotten, or how cute the stupid story boards are. Hey, great graphic rendering helps. I love to have a blast on my 67" DLP TV with Surround 7.1 as long as it GOT GAME. I don't give a shit about the story. I want to GAME.I feel your pain, bro. Everything is all corperate now not many breakout games. If you spend sometime with MMRPG you will soon realize that human brains (collective thoughts) are far better than AI(aritificial intelligence.)

I missed the days I worked for a PC Game Maker. Often times work was actually fun. Too bad that I have developed somewhat expensive tastes and not enough time to play.

Bline....I too was lost in the landscape of hoohum gaming...but like I said give dawn of war a try it is very good the balance of force management and strategy is very balanced. To be effective you have to use all of your assets. Scouts, Arty, Airborne, Mech...everything. When you play on line the game speeds up like crazy. Any way there is a new dogfight sim Aces High that advertises a 24.7.365 dog fight everyday online...check it out. Welcome to Aces High II
