Legal in Europe???

Can anyone tell me if the folowing are legal to carry in a rental car in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France or Holland:
1. Pepper Spray
2. Baseball bat/glove/baseballs
3. .40 Smith & Wesson handgun

This is what I carry in my X and am leaving for Europe in 25 days.
Just wondering.

Thanks!

Just a guess, but I'm pretty sure the hand-gun is out.

Looks like you are going to be limited to a Kookaburra Kahuna Warrior bat. You can always claim it as a souvenir.

Australia is the same,
Pepper spray, tasers and battons(commercial LE) are restricted to law enforcement personell.

Handguns can only be transported straight to and from competitions/gun shops, in locked cases and never to be un attended (no toilet stops) Since yours is .40cal it is out of the question all together since anything above .38 is illegal , oh, and you do need a licence for any kind of gun.

Knives are a bit of a gray area, in my state you need a legitimate reason to posess one in any area, includeing your own home, unless you have a liscence or an exemption to own/posess one. Swords and anything with two or more cutting edges are highly illegal unless you have a prohibited weapons licence, and cannot be carried in a vehicle unless they are locked away in a case and the police are notified that you are transporting them.

Body Armour is illegal unless you are in Law Enforcement

Sporting equipment in a sports bag is about as legal is it gets unless you have a sports bat just floating around the cabin, in which case is is at the discression of the officer who pulled you over as to wether it is a weapon or piece of sports equipment.

Of course, I do have a legitimate reason to have a 5/8" X 25" ejector pin under the drivers seat- I'm a trainee Tool Maker

If you like being able to effectively defend yourself, don't come to Australia.

The only clearly legal items to carry on board in any of the countries you mentioned are the ball and glove. The bat is a tricky item whose legality will largely depend on how obvious it is to a law-enforging agent that your true destination (or point of trip origin) was an actual baseball game.

The pepper spray is outright illegal under any circumstance, I believe. As for the handgun, the only way to carry one legally is to apply for a European Firearms Pass, (see http://europa.eu/scadplus/leg/en/lvb/l14011.htm) issued by the authorities of the respective member states, which must be in the firearm bearer's posession at all times.

Due to your gun's caliber being .40, though, it might not be possible at all to even get a pass for such a handgun, since in most European countries anything over a .32 calibre is considered a weapon of war.

Cheers,

Dude!

Are you going on vacation or as a one man invasion force?

Try a camera, a map and a frisbee. All legal and all you will need.
