I get out of every ticket I get out of state because I use my UK license for rentals and play like a dumb tourist on the wrong side of the road. Works the opposite way in the UK with my US license but, of course back in July I promptly jumped in the carpool lane in San Bernadino 5 miles from my destination on a trip from Denver to CA and got pulled over! The reason;

I forgot I was pulling a trailer but the cop noticed it also I had not got my CO license plates or DL yet so everything still had CA all over it except the trailer.

He did let me off the driving at 75 part as I apologized profusely, was still a $152 ticket though, 1st one in 7 years.

My wife gave me crap about it then promptly got a ticket 2 weeks later in Yellowstone for speeding. What goes around comes around!

You don't need "contacts" to stay on their good side unless the wife kicked em out of bed early!

Mark - It was neither. It was a Port Authority cop - they work the bridges and the approaches.

Ifly - I think that it has to do with how you handle yourself more so than your contacts, didn't think I had a shot with 25 over.

I drive like a wuss in that stretch now. I can NOT get stopped by him again. I don't think he'll be so nice if there is a next time.

cmyX5go, thats exactly what I was saying! (well maybe not EXACTLY) If you at least show some remorse and understand what you were doing it is my experience they tend to go lighter on you. Classic example that changed my attitude in 1985 was when I shot past a cop on the M2 in Dartford, UK on the way home from London in my then Lotus Esprit Turbo doing what he clocked as 134mph (which was about right). I was going so fast I did not even see the cop so I kept going, apparently he was having trouble keeping up so they closed off the motorway to one lane before the Medway bridge in Kent and slowed all the traffic down. When I pulled up I was what the hell is this all about attitude (young and stupid back then) so they yanked me from the car, jailed me for an evening and then the judge a month later took my license away for 6 months. He gave me a tidbit of advice about the way police officers react to young hooligans who mouth off to police and since that day I have admitted my mistakes and taken usually lighter punishment than I have heard others have been issued with.

I was thinking about this. I wonder if my nice officer would have been so nice had he seen a radar detector? Second car was right around the bend from the first one. I may have thought it was the same zap.

You can hide the radar from clear view.
