I hear ya. Fortunately for me I am rarely seen wearing anything but jeans and a T-shirt so I don't worry about shirt cuff's. However, on the occassion I do get "dressed", I never have a problem with my cuff's.
But Gresch, also keep in mind, there is actually very sound logic for today's growing standard. It's a simple reason and owning a few big watches I can testify, it's the smart decision.

The reason is: Big watches are much easier to read. I have very good vision and going back to small watches makes me crazy.

regarding "easier to read".... if you can't read a 40mm, well, time for a new prescription

The "big watch" fad has faded big time in NYC, and i'm pretty happy about it, I didn't want to spend $4k on a watch that I hated just to be "in style" anyway....

btw - if anyone needs an Authorized Dealer recommendation in NYC let me know, i got a very good deal on my watch (25% off with no haggling, no tax)

B-Line..have you ever heard of Maurice Lacroix watches. I've seen them around but don't know much about them.

They're top notch.

So are Baum & Mercier, Bell & Ross, Sinn, Oris, Omega and Hamilton.

I've heard of them but don't know much about the lacroix watches...

and Gresch, don't know if I agree with you on the big watch fad being over. Offshore's, Panerai's, etc. are still flying off the shelves as is the IWC Big Pilot, etc.
I would say, 40mm is the smallest watches still being purchased with the average tettering somewhere around 43. Both Panerai and AP are still making special addition watches that no one can keep in stock like the Polaris, Barichello, Panerai Subzilla's and even the new Ferrari theme'd watches (not my taste.)

And even the Jaeger, Bell and Ross, etc. are all still doing very well with big watches.
Rolex seems to be the only watch manufacturer that is not putting out big watches.

I don't think big"er" watches is a fad. You will not see the average going back to the 36mm and 38mm our parents and grandparents wore.

I like Skagen as well. Relatively inexpensive, entirely titanium... extremely comfortable, slim, light, excellent crystal, not a problem in winter, etc.

Not sure what you're basing that statement on (except that I assume you have a Breitling, not a Tag), but I heartily disagree. Both are outstanding brands. I own both, and my Breitling has always had a slightly off-center (and "slippery" - always sliding around so it was out of whack) bezel and the winding stem is very tough to turn, whereas my Tag works flawlessly and smoothly. As a result, my Breitling sits in a drawer, whereas my Tag (see photo) is on my wrist constantly, and is the best watch I've ever had. Here's the Tag I own:
