Smile Anyone here play guitar?

I just bought a electic guitar and amp, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for me (Total Beginner ) on playing the guitar and learning the instrument.

I've played steel string acoustic since I was 15...
still tinkle on my two great instruments;
played a lil' solid body electric and a lil' f hole hollow
body elec., way back in my college daze, decades ago.

There are others here, I assure you.

Let me think on it...if you were starting to bang on
an acoustic, I might have more tips as my fading
skills are not on a solid body electric insturment.

I'll wonder on it awhile...

I wish I did. I should have kept at the lessons back in 4th grade. I'm sitting here listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn as I type this. Damn..that boy could play. Lost him way too soon.

Congrats on your purchase. Some entry level guitar tabs, so you can jam with your fav tunes, and DVD rentals for beginning guitar, can be a fun way to start. Also, if you are serious about learning to play, get some lessons so that you do not start out with bad habits and learn proper technique. With lessons, you can learn much faster by teaching your brain and hands some shortcuts that you would not have known otherwise.
Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
