I guess I'm in the minority here. I think entertainers (regardless of if I agree with them or not) have every right to voice political opinions in whatever media they choose/can. Nobody has to agree with them, but one thing they do is get people's attention and get them talking. If a celeb can provoke more thoughts and consideration about a politcal 'issue' I think it can only be good for the country.

The fact that she continues to perform knowing how some feel about the skit is fantastic IMHO. It's getting people to talk about it that normally wouldn't, nothing wrong with that. I think that's just a celeb using her status to engage and provoke discussion, education and thought.

I'm not a fan of hers, but I applaud her for her efforts.

Fans buy a ticket to listen to her sing. if she wants to pontificate about her political beliefs, she should book herself into Madison Square Garden and sell tix, advertising that "Barbara Streisand will be discussing politics and not singing". Let's see her sell out MSG with that honesty....

What if she went on tour, charging $200 a ticket, leading people to believe that they would hear her sing, and instead, she stood on stage and pontificated about interior decorating? is that ok? because it's the same situation just a different topic....

by the way, i worked for 3 major labels in the 90's (EMI/capital/Virgin) and trust me, the A&R departments are none too happy when acts start shooting their mouths about anything but singing...

Ummm, No, fans buy a ticket to be entertained by her. That includes, singing, dancing and what ever other schpielkis she decides to throw into her show. Even if it's some political comedy.
I was just at a Roger Waters concert and he had "IMPEACH BUSH" plastered all over his flying "Animals" pig. Didn't hear anyone complain about that and he's not even American.
And bands like U2 have made careers out of "entertaining" people with a political message.
What about Green Day's "American Idiot" or Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire" or John Lennon's entire hit list.

So it's not fair for us to say, it's okay for her but not for him or vice versa. Entertainment usually carries some sort of message be it political or other. Otherwise we would not have great songs like "Biko" by Peter Gabriel or "We are the World" by everybody..

What, you worked for 3 major labels????? Tell someone to sign my friends' band!!! They deserve it in this piss poor state of a thing called a "music industry" right now. The garbage on the radio makes me want to rip my damn ears off. And don't tell me to change the station or turn it off if I don't like it... cause I do. I drive more in silence now than ever with shitty radio. It makes me sick to my stomach and full of RAGE when I hear crap like Fallout Fags (sorry Ryan, no offense), Someonekillme at the Disco, AFI, all the other EMO junk and crap rock like Hinder. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Anyway, back on topic and off my rant, maybe she should shut up and RETIRE along with Madonna and quite a few others I can probably name and they should all crawl in a hole together never to show their faces again.

LoL Guiness,

They certainley are not putting out bands like Zeppelin, Floyd, etc. anymore.

Even the last generation of music was head and shoulders above what we hear today. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Janes Addiction, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden...

I listened to a song last night by My Chemical Romance.. I think the lead singer got confused and showed up to a Queen cover band and started changing the lyrics to already existing songs..

I think the reason for the lack of good bands today is because of the sheer size of Hip/Hop and how much of the labels resources has gone into that area (because that's where the money is now) vs. developing some good old rock bands.

It really is a shame that all I listen to is cd's I bought ten years ago.. But Guiness I have some friends in A&R and if your friends stuff is good, send it my way.. I will pass it on.. Just one warning. Hope the band members are younger than 25 !

And right there is the biggest problem which I think is total BULLSHIT cause these guys blow half the crap on the radio away. Even their manager (also the manager for Slash and Zack Wylde) think they get the short end of the stick cause of their age and can't believe they're not signed. They've had some bites, but the manager turned them down because they are doing better and more on their own then they would with these labels. They just completed their 3rd or 4th independent US tour.

Am I the only one that thinks this is strange, complaining about entertainers spouting their political opinion ... and here on a BMW X5 site we are talking about our political opinion. HELLO!! the pot calling the kettle black. The same thing is being done here. The only difference is that I didn't pay to hear you say it. Regardless it seems to be the same thing.

The question should be ... Why does it really upset you? I can't be the only one to think this.

The fact that i choose to read/hear/or participate regarding someone's opinion in this forum makes all the differerence in the world my friend. Miss lady does all the talking and nobody gets express their opinion period during the concert. So in that regard the same thing is NOT being done here. The iceing on the cake around here is the fact that I DON'T HAVE TO PAY TO HEAR IT. Like you said "that's the only difference" but guess what that's the difference that matters and the main reason she needs to shut up and sing.

I think the points of view expressed on this site are fantastic!!! Obviously we don't all agree with one another and typically responses are 'civil'.

I still believe entertainers of any form risk loss of profits, ticket sales, endorsments etc. by speaking about political issues. As an agent/record company etc I would hate for my artist to take a public stance that may isolate fans and hurt the bottom line. But, if she feels strongly about an issue (just like many of us do) and is willing to risk reduced income, then I applaud her for standing by her views.
