Great question for us Palm users. Somehow I believe our phones on Verizon and sprint are not interchangable. Anyone know??

Up in Canada all the carriers demand a 3 year contract wiht a new phone. We could be looking at that soon enough.
You are EXACTLY right. Carriers will simply reduce the subsidy to account for the risk that you will leave them for a competing carrier. This new rule does nothing for the consumer.

We will see about that. I'm inclined to see it the other way. They charge more i just find another carrier.

They won't charge more for the plans. They will charge more for the phone. Or possibly, the end result may be that the cellular companies do not even sell phones and simply provide the service. That is how it is in much of the Asian market.

The problem you will run into is the different technologies available in phones currently

There are almost no phones currently sold in the US that can do both CDMA and GSM systems in europe they are quite common (I had a quad band V60 I bought in germany when they first came out great phone and worked everywhere too bad it got stolen) I know there is one or two from Verizon (one samsung for sure and I think a nokia) but from other carriers I see a lot of GSM only or CDMA only phone programs which still leaves a huge gap in the easy rollover of phones from carrier to carrier...I just wish Verizon would allow you to use the full capability of the bluetooth system in the motorola phones like alltel does.
