First of all, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving today and enjoyed lots and lots of delicious food and time spent with loved ones ![]() Secondly, since my parenst drove down to visit me in their new 2006 E350, I had a chance to give it a test drive and thought you might be interested in reading my review about it. If so, head over here and give it a look! http://www.mbworld.org/forums/showth...46#post1854646 Cheers!!

How have you been driving a car with Xenon HID's for 6 years when you have an '01 4.4? Was that an option back then or did you retrofit in 2000?

Excuse me, my word choice was a bit careless:
I've been driving, with at least some regularity, xenon-equipped vehicles for 6 years, and constantly for 2.5 years: In 2000, my Dad had picked up a then-new Acura 3.2 TL which had xenons, and I drove that quite frequently when home. My car while at UCLA, a Mustang, of course did not have xenons, you are right, it was during that time that I learned of the tremendous benefit of xenons, even if non-projector style xenons like the Acura had. Then in August 2004 I acquired the X5 and have therefore had xenons conSISTENTLY since then. Apologies for my inaccuracy. The gist of what I'm saying, of course, is that I've at least experienced xenon-equipped cars for 6 years -- and had them regularly for nearly 2.5 yrs -- such that I can say with absolute conviction that I will NEVER own a car without them again. Capiche?

ok, now while reading your post on the MB, you write....
"I am 100% convinced that once my beloved 2001 X5 4.4 Sport expires, I'm through with BMW" Hmmmmmmmmmm...... ![]() Them words might be considered treason on this forum

that's like saying that people who are against Bush's regime are against America
(that's a strange comment which is, curiously, is never made against Republicans who are against a Democrat president )stated another way, there is nothing un-Patriotic about criticising the current leadership of America. In fact, it WOULD be un-Patriotic to NOT criticise things that went against the Founding Fathers' visions of this great country. Similarly, it's BECAUSE I love BMW so much that I am expressing such disgust with their current (design) philosophy. Wow, i cannot believe that i -- a typically apolitical individual -- just made such an analogy. but, there you have it. i'm not against BMW -- i'm against the current way they're going about things, that's all honestly, if i didn't want a convertible so badly; and if my x5 were't nearing the end of her life, i'd keep my x5 forever

My 99 E430 has HIDs, and so does my 01 4.4 ... I guess technically it could be 6 years if he has an october 2000 build MY01

Interesting review, thanks for posting! I really like Mercedes... The only one I've actually driven is my friend's mother's 2004 ML320. I liked it, but it wasn't anywhere near the X5 in terms of handling. I would love one of the new E320 BLUETECs.. I think in terms of getting better gas mileage, diesel (NOT hybrids) is the way to go. I wish BMW would bring some diesels over..

yeah, i agree i that i have yet to drive a benz with bmw-like handling and steering feedback -- but then i've not yet tried, e.g., an SLK AMG yet.
i HAVE driven, in no particular order: mid-90s S-class (greatest tank out there?!) 2000 S-class (meh. not too impressed really) 2004? 2005? S-class (wow. impressed. )2000-2003 model CLK320 -- plastic interior current ML350 (supremely comfy; surprisingly quick; beautiful interior) E350 (see above) E55 AMG (brief test drive ... holy POOP!!) current SL500 (VERY impressive; the world's greatest topless? -- AND i'm nearly 6'5" and didn't feel like i was looking through the top windshield like i did in the 6-series convertible ... put another way, i fit perfectly!) also, i'm with you on the diesel ... but BMW just announced (www.leftlanenews.com; scroll down a bit) that they will NOT be releasing BlueTec vehicles after all; they want to go their own route. HOWEVER: the 2010 toyota prius should finally combine the best of both worlds: DIESEL-electric hybrids
