How Very Sad

http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a...00010000000001

One would wonder how the police feel they could shoot that many rounds like that? I feel for the family, such a tragic event indeed! I must feel we don't know the whole story but really with all those shots fired it seems the police did a horrid job

This was all over the local news last night. From your article:

One 12-year veteran fired his weapon 31 times, emptying two full magazines

Unbelievable...

I guess I'd like to wait until the facts come out before passing judgement on the police. In the confusion of a gun fight it is hard to tell who's shooting at you and who isn't, especially when mulitiple individuals/police are firing their weapons. During a gunfight you get tunnel vision, time seems to slow down, your hearing is altered, often officers don't realize how many rounds they have fired until later. I don't know enough about this incident to say whether or not the police messed up. If they did, then those responsible need to be dealt with. Mr. Sharpton isn't helping the matter either.

Mr. Sharpton will make sure the matter is not brushed under the rug.

Prior to Mr. Sharpton's emergence on the NYC political scene, you would not have even read this article in the news. Nothing at all would be done about it either. There would be no investigation and nobody would have to answer any questions. That was business as usual before Mr. Sharpton became involved in NYC politics.

I know most people around the country simply think he is a self promotor, but you should do some reading on him and how he emerged on the NYC political scene. Self promoting had nothing to do with it, nor did he have any political ambitions back then. He was simply the reverend of a local church, and he began organizing with the locals against police brutality -- something that did indeed exist in NYC on a very large scale.

I can tell you that I would be 99% sure he did not show up on this particular scene on his own and was asked to be there by the family of the victim.

What gun fight? They Police were the only one's doing any shooting. It has already been established that the victims had no gun. As far as Mr. Sharpton is concerned I agree with Eric. The Police would have shoved this under the rug. I personally am glad he is rattling cages because if they screwed up they should be made to pay.

I think he was speaking in generalities about gunfights, not this shooting in particular. I think he is also alluding to contagious fire where everyone starts shooting even if they don't know why.

I am eager to hear more about this shooting. There are certainly more facts that need to come to light on both sides of the story.

This is not the first time NY's finest have gunned down an unarmed man. FiveO may have been speaking in as you say "generalities" but It's the kind of thinking on the part of police officers; or as you say "contagious fire where everyone starts shooting even if they don't know why" that's at issue in this case and others like it. While i respect Law enforcement officers it appears that some think they have license to kill and continue to gun down people in the street when other measures could have been taken. It's not like their fellow officers are gonna step forward and admit a mistake. It's just not gonna happen and personally it's that kind of thing that bothers me.

Unloading two magazines is insane....regardless of the issue at hand. With 31 rounds fired from one weapon, it is hard to find this at all justified.
