AC Cobra 427 vs. Viper GTS Drag Race

I though this was pretty cool.

Is the Cobra supercharged? I didn't think so, but I swear I hear a blower in the background.

No I believe its just a good old fashioned 427. I am also a big fan of the twisty races but I posted this drag race because its not often that you a cobra take on some some new blood like the Viper. In Philly years ago my friend's dad used to take us down to the Front Street drag races which were awesome. It was cool just to see some of the unique rides driving around, where else could you see a 930 Turbo race a Hemi Cuda? The best race I ever say was a big block Sting Ray (I believe a '67 427 worked with an illegal blower and god knows what else) take on a cycle, I think a Kowasaki 750...needless to say in the 1/4 mile the Vette beat the bike!

I have never been a drag racing fan but I have always loved cool rides since I was little. My father had a couple Triumph bikes in the late 60's and early 70's as well as a pretty wierd car called a Marcos and a '67 Vette 427 (which he blew up on a freeway in NY racing an El Camino). So cool cars both American Muscle and Euro racers have been in my blood for years.

Doubtful that was an original Cobra. It was probably a modern version, but you never know.

Whenever you put 500 ft/lbs of torque in something that's scarcely over 2,000 lbs soaking wet you end up with something godawful fast. The mother of my wife's best friend once owned Bill Cosby's Cobra, one of only two built by Carrol Shelby with dual Paxton Superchargers (the other was for himself). Apparently it had around 800 horsepower (and a short life, as a subsequent owner totalled it in an accident). It would be worth well over a $million at auction today. That particular car was the subject of a Grammy winning comedy album by Bill Cosby called 200 M.P.H. At the end of the skit, after scaring the piss out of himself just trying to get it out of the driveway, he gives the keys back to the Shelby American delivery guy and says "Give it to George Wallace", although today he would probably say "Give it to Michael Richards". My favorite line of the skit... "The car had not moved, and already it was killing people."
