So, its OK for a 3.0 or 4.4 X5 owner to put a 4.6 or 4.8 kit but its not OK for a 4.6 or 4.8 owner to put an ///M badge.

Personally, I don't care what somebody does with their car as long as it makes them happy. Its their car anyway.
Who ever said it was good for a 3.0 or 4.4 guy to "upgrade" badges

I agree to a degree with you guys. First, the person that's making the payments should do whatever he or she wants. We all have our opinions about the subject. I've personal owned a ///M and seeing a 3 series with ///M badging was almost an insult to the brand. I've owned a 4.4i that was just fine without ///M badging. I currently own a X5 that is designated by BMW as a 4.6is X5 (M)....so yes I think it's cool to add a ///M badge. It's not a ploy to fool anyone.
I think that de-badging a 3.0 or a 4.4 and adding a 4.6 or 4.8 body kit is a ploy to fool the non BMW owner. But remember, at the end of the day, it's their X !!!................Phil

I have mixed feelings on the subject. Why do I care what some guy chooses to do to his car. Real enthusiasts will know the difference, the ones who don't probably don't know what a ///m car is anyway.

Secondly, I like debadged cars, always have. If I wasn't afraid of doing damage to my 4.8is, I would debadge immediately. I just like that euro, clean look.

Lastly, as many of you know, I am a Pcar owner. I get my balls busted all the time by a friend because, I own a Carrera 2S. Not that he doesn't like the Carrera 2, he loves it. But he feels the 2S is a poser car.
The reason is, the 2S is the TURBO body, TURBO wheels, TURBO S aerokit, on the naturally aspirated 911. Porsche does this sometimes when they have left over body's. So, some people call it a TURBO LOOK. I personally love the TURBO LOOK. I love the big fat ass and the ground stance of the vehicle. But I have been called a "wannabe"
- Now just by coincidence, the original owner of the car who spec'd the vehicle prior to purchase, ordered the vehicle with a code, NO BADGE FROM FACTORY. So my car (from the factory) does not have the CARRERA S badge on it, further making it look like a turbo.
So, am I supposed to go out and buy and install a CARRERA S BADGE FOR CAR??? AND, I like the look of the car better without the badge. Now to some people, I guess that makes me a poser. But I don't care what they think, I love my car, the looks, the cleanliness, etc.
- I know this is different than if I had installed a TURBO badge on the car, but hey, everyone is entitled to do as they please. If I see some guy in a 3.0 with a ///M badge, I will laugh my ass off. But it wouldn't surprise me if some 993 Turbo owners passed me and started laughing thinking I was trying to pose as a Turbo car with a NA engine !!..

just my .02

Also agree with B-line. A real enthusiast will know anyway.

I am talking about the 4.6/4.8 body kit, not the badges. When a 3 or 4.4 owner puts a 4.8 body kit and removes the 3 or 4.4 badge, hardly any one objects.

As I said I don't care, its their car, and for the record I do not have a ///M badge on my 4.8 either.

I don't like it when people take the X5 and 3.0 ,4.4, 4.8 badges off. That bothers the hell out of me. Anyone agree?

IMO there is nothing wrong with debadging a car, however, you are a poser if you rebadge to something you don't own. But hey - do whatever makes you happy.

De-badging it is one thing. Falsely re-badging it is another thing...
