I had very bad experiences with American cars - not only reliability but the car maker not standing behind their product (specifically Chrysler). I don't have a problem going back and forth to the dealer, I meticulously maintain my vehicles. I DO have a problem when they refuse to step up to the plate when I clearly got a defective product.

Maybe never was too strong a word. Should they get their acts together again, I might. It will be a hard sell.

Ah..... I see the problem..... Chrysler...... GAG ......... In that case I can understand the huge amount of frustration...... Their recent vehicles are improving but I still wouldn't go there.....

I've had 5 new cars in my lifetime, the first 3 were American.
92 Jimmy - 90K miles - tranny shot
96 Jeep - 60K miles - tranny shot
99 Jeep from hell - BIG issue with stealer - Went to Attorney General for assistance. All of a sudden stealer changed his tune, Chrysler wound up buying out my lease and giving me a chunk of change, hence my 1st BMW. I'm on X5 #2 and couldn't be happier.

Do I have annoying issues, yes, but I'll deal with them for the sheer driving pleasure and knowing that they will step up to the plate if necessary. Although I haven't needed them to, BMW stepped up to the plate big time for my brother.

Before my last BMW 7 series I owned a Cadillac Sedan Deville. That thing gave me SOoooo much trouble until......... the warranty ran out then no more trouble. It was strange.

But as American cars go handling was non existant, same with the steering ( except you could do a u turn on a dime) Braking stunk as well. I did enjoy that car though. There were some things BMW could still learn a thing or two about from Cadillac. Climate control for one and electric windows for another.

The only other American vehicle i have really looked at is a Ford 250 diesel. Don't know why but i love those things (minus the rifle in the window)
