exactly what I'm trying to say, a doctor needs to get all the training, they dont have the mumbo jumbo bullcrap, they study biology, they study the body they study how we work they practice they learn, a computer guy or an analyst does not need this to succeed. all you need is a little patience, understanding and will. again i'm still fresh out of school but i've worked for some people who had less education than I did and who knew less than I did what does that say for a college educated graduate?

I"m mailny disagreeing with laborlitigator's blanket statements that college is a waste, and further that IT professionals don't need it.

I also believe that the most successful IT professionals have as broad a background in technology as possible and that is best started with a college education.

MIT and Harvard are brand names. And because of their name they attract bright people. Quality in quality out. But, I have seen some very dumb people out of HBS. Last time I checked Harvard's application (over 10 years ago) I saw that they stress more on family background and ties (if you are son/daughter of a CEO, or Senator, or a Governer, you have bright chances) then individual persons background and capability. HBS has sons and daughters of Presidents/Prime Ministers/political heads from several countries.

But degrees do help.

........so wait a minute.......does a degree mean you are intelligent, or educated? I had a college professor tell me a degree shows the world and employers that I have the ability to learn and retain; to succeed, I must have intelligence.........

I don't think any of those blanket statements can ever be made. They're too general.
