Thanks for all your knowledge and advice on Canon EF Lens! I'll definitely check out what Canon has and may break down and get two lenses instead. I'll also check out Sigma as well. Thanks for the camera lens lesson. |

Great info, thanks. That 24mm--am I able to zoon in at all with it? I'm a photo novice, and I don't want to deal with my brother in law, who is an ex-photojournalist. I have another friend who is a famous photojournalist, but she's a bit of a camera snob and isn't very helpful to a plebe like me.

Great info gresch
I have the 70-200 f4L and it is great. You can use the 1.4X extender on this lens to get it up to a 280 reach with only one stop loss to 5.6 ($250.00 for the extender). I am looking to replace the kit lens with either the 17-40L or the 24-70 f2.8L. Right now I am leaning toward the 24-70 as it gives me a fast lens and the range is where I am taking most of my photos. The 24-70 is a bit pricey at $1150.00 and a little on the heavy side but I have heard nothing but good things about this lens. I have heard of a lot more focusing problems with non-canon lenses when using the 20D but dont have any such lenses so i cannot verify. Dennis Quote:

no, the 24 is a prime lens (fixed). It's a great lens, basically you use your feet to zoom! LOL!

I got VERY VERY lucky about a year ago and picked up the 70-200 2.8L IS from dell for $1100, they had it mispriced on their web site but honored it, albeit with much difficulty and a long wait, but I got it regardless. It's a great lens.

My bad, 1 correction to the lens discussion, I have the Canon 28mm 1.8, not a 24 2.8, canon doesn't even make a 24 2.8. .. yikes, my memory is shot... the same comments apply regardless.
this is the correct lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...102851&is=GREY

Talking about cameras and lenses can get so confusing for the beginner. I've been asking for the D70 for some time now and started wondering if I should go Canon instead, or the D70s. Correct me if I'm wrong though, but isn't the Canon D20 8.1 MP and the D70/D70s 6.1, so you really can't compare that much anymore
Anyway, I just want a nice DSLR eventually with 19-50mm, 28-80mm, 70-300mm, 500/1000mm lenses. I borrowed a friend's Canon to go to the track and I still felt with the 70-300mm, I was too far away. The purpose of the camera would be for standard picture taking, travel (if we ever travel again), landscapes, scenary, track events, auto-x, still car pics (big fan of the shots in Rennsport magazine - I think that's the mag, and this one asian dude know for his car photography but I can't remember his name). That's the kinda stuff I want to get into. I want to be able to take the kind of pics where someone will look at a picture of my X5 which is just like every other from the outside and say to themself, holy sh1t that's nice.

What about this as an "everyday all-around lens" with the addition of the 70-200 when you need the reach. |
