I was working at 'nilla's record label back in the 90's, it was a horrible experience. One of our senior execs was overheard at an industry party saying that he was embarrassed to have vanilla ice on the label and it made the front page of Variety and Billboard.... ugly ugly.

I remember that episode. In Living Color was and still is one of my old time favorite TV shows. Carey and Damon Wayans were just way too funny.

If memory serves me correctly, his album was #1 on the Bilboard Top 200 Album chart for around 20 weeks or so.

Part of the point was......... he did all the vocals and sounds you hear on the recording. No one else at all.
