Automotive Betrayal

I read this in my paper copy of C+D yesterday, and when I got through half the article, I felt as though I had been stabbed in the heart through the back. Acura is turning the NSX into a GT car. Any Honda fan will realize how much this hurts considering how revolutionary this car was. This is supposedly part of the new Acura philosophy to be more upscale. Other related moves were when Honda discontinued the Prelude and Integra back in 2001, and now are cutting off the RSX.

All in all, I feel pretty let down between the directions Honda and BMW are headed in. Both, new, Honda's and Bimmer's just feel so impersonal with these new gens. They feel soulless. It's the same deal with both the companies. Yes, they haul ass and hug like crazy, but I just don't feel the connection. Look inside a new Honda or BMW and one will know exactly what I mean if he/she was a fan of previous gen BMW's and Honda's.

This NSX thing is just something I can't get over though.

I just got done reading the same article, caught me by surprise. I'm not too optomistic about where some players in the industry are going or thinking. Not much character in cars anymore.

I know exactly how you feel. Honda lost me as a loyal enthusiast 9 years ago with each generation being "softer" and heavier than the previous. BMW is starting to do the same. Seems like both companies are gearing their products more toward the mainstream rather than attracting the enthusiasts, whom made them so successful in the first place. Oh well, just need to find that next auto company that is still willing to build for that enthusiast niche.

Honda is projected to remodel 57% of their offerings this year, 37% next, and 25% the following year - the most of any car manufacturer - like Mark Twain said, "Noboby likes change, but a baby" - Still you might want to wait to see what they will offer in replacement before throwing stones - JMHO

I am not suprised in the least the NSX while beautiful and very fun to drive was grossly underpowered for it's performance and price catagory...They never sold as well here as they did in Japan and eventually it was bound to happen

The NSX was brilliant and revolutionary, why change it now? Honda and BMW need to stop messing with success and stick with the tried-and-true.

Honestly, if Honda wanted to move Acura upscale, why not just sell the RSX as a Honda model? I mean, it was selling very well. I understand it might cannibalize Civic Si sales, but honestly I don't give a damn about the oh-so-American Civic Si and would rather buy an imported RSX which is really an Integra anyways. Plus the Civic is so damn fugly.
