yeah, i'm already posted my car on craig's list in the sf bay area region (just search for x5 4.4, it's the one asking $19,000) ...

most dealers were only offering me $10,000 for my car (!!!!!!!!) but sonnen's offering me $14,000.

they also chopped the price of their car by $6K.

the net difference, now, out the door, is just over $35K. my UPPERMOST LIMIT was $35K. so i'm going to try to get them to get below $35K. My target was $32K-$33K.

Is their price contingent upon a trade? Think about the tax benefits of trading in your X, on the M3 cost. The <5k may or may not be worth it.

You'll pay tax on M3-X5value instead of the full thing. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Eh, it might not be worth it to do it that way based on the tax benefits.

Do you owe anything on the car?

Calculate if it's worth trading the X in or better to sell it on your own. Let your parents know what you calculated. Find out, if they're cool with closing the M3 without already having sold the X5. Done.

Fwiw, the M3 price seems decent, moreover since it's what you're looking for.

nope, don't owe anything on the x5.

also: is it really true that m3's are as reliable as i've heard? it's really not as big a deal that it has 37,000 miles? czu that's the only fly in the ointment for me -- i do wish it had <30,000 miles, but oh well ... i got my X at 37,000 miles too

i've have heard that the germany-built BMWs -- and, FWIW, the Benzes too -- are far more reliable than the american-built ones. go figure?

BMWs in general are much better in their gen-cycle. Ie. 2003 X5 is pretty relaible, 2006 4.4 is better than 2004. You get the point. Your M3 should be fine. I believe KewlX5 has a late model E46 SMG M3 as well and is enjoying smooth ownership.
