Keyword here is "could" (become number one). GM's sales have risen in the last three months, and it now looks like GM "could" hang on to that #1 spot for a few more years.

The new Silverado looks like a winner; Saturn just released a new line of cars that is getting rave reviews; the new camaro is coming in '08, which should help sales; Cadillac was just named one of the top five customer service winners by BusinessWeek; and believe it or not, GM ranks higer than BMW and MB in quality. GM's problem right now is not products. It's image (and health care costs, but that's another story entirely).

I am not a GM apologist by any means, hell, I don't a GM car! They'll remain number one, though.

Juan

I agree with all of that however they don't sell cars that offer appeal to younger buyers?

What do they have that is similar to a Subaru Outback or a 3 wagon.

Saturn is up a whopping 60% THIS MONTH. Considering they just replaced their entire line up, that's good.
But I disagree about the products. Their GMT900 trucks (Tahoe, Avalance,Suburban...etc) are just not as good as their Ford rivals. And comparisons show it each time. Yet they still sell better.

umm...nothing...they know that a typical wagon from an american company won't sell (Ford Freestyle). And the 3 is a premium sedan. Chevrolet is a mainstream brand. Look over at Cadillac. They have the (new) CTS.

Wagon or sedan they have very little for the younger buyer.

The Focus is not bad but no 4 wheel drive.

1) Is your first sentence a question or a statement?

2) Re: your second sentence, are you saying that just because GM doesn't have a DIRECT competitor the mainstream market leader in 4wd wagon that they're doomed?

In addition, Subaru's have ridiculous reliability issues.

That being said, I love Subaru, it's your views that sometimes confuse me.

I give GM props for serious improvements over the last couple years. The last Pontiac G6 I drove was mildly entertaining in the twisties, moreso than a Toyota Camry. Of course, they still need some improvement- the 4-speed auto was geared wider than the Pacific Ocean. The problem is that they've lost the public's trust and winning that back will be difficult even if their products show improvement.

Like I've predicted: Toyota will take over the world one day.
