Well, no real purpose because I could get away with just having one! I do use them for audio ... so that I can have multiple windows open and access to all of them during editing and recording. Out of frame is a rack of pro audio equipment which I use in conjunction. My original plan was to use 4 monitors, but I came across 2 more free "hand-me-down" lcd's so I went over-the-top with the setup for fun! I just had to add another $100 card. Everything works surprisingly well, considering.

Its just a Powermac G5 with a bunch of analog and digital equipment piped into it via a firewire interface. They are scattered throughout my studio, but later I'll get up some pics of the entire room. Soon I will be adding a Roland V-drum setup, so my drummer buddies are easily accommodated.

I have 3 but not enough room to set up the other 2 right now so i'm relagated to my iMac 24" display. It does make it easier to span the mixer and sequencer across more than one display though.

Once you get used to this type of setup, there's no going back!

Its just like one big desktop area. You just drag things around across to each monitor as if there is no border. OS X Leopard deals with it; in the settings are options for the multiple displays. If you editing large image files, you can expand them across all the lcds; works great for that! If you want to expand a full motion video across all 4 (or 6) lcds, that would require the Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 cards (which are very expensive!). The multiple lcd are also nice for scrolling webpages because you can drag them across all the lcds (especially length wise) and minimize scrolling.

I am about due for a new desk top...running a spring of 2004 Dell. I am sure it does not have the latest and greatest of everything. Although I did bring it to the local PC shop for a whipe last year and more mem. I think I am running a Pent 3. I am about to start a new job with a consulting firm and will be lobbying for a new PC, but I think they might give me a laptop....I have been in the Apple stores drooling over the toys but worry about having to change all of my windows based applications which is not really practical at this point. I run Corel X3 for my Tee biz and all my camera and pix programs are windows based....sorry to tread jack!

Any suggs?

Roc
