Work being done on the 545...loaner is a 07 328.

Not a bad little ride. It is a 328i, automatic which blows, but pretty responsive car. More then I would have though at least although I have to say after the X5/545 man is it TINY inside. Not a huge fan, yet, of the Windows engine start/stop function

Also need a hibernate and log-off button.
I think 328 is nice daily driver.

I don't care for the start mech on these cars either. Its kinda redundant
to have a key and a button. Why not just BT it and when your in the car it knows it and push the button. Good loaner!

I think it is just a matter of what you are comfortable with:

start
1) push brake
2) insert key
3) push button

stop
1) push button
2) push key
3) remove key

Not all that complex, I guess I just don't understand the point to it.

Yeah I don't get the start button as well. I had a loaner 330 and 325 and it took some getting used to it. I just think that its another component that can break.

Coincidence. My 530xi is in the shop getting a Passive Restraint warning and a couple of paint chips fixed. I'm in a loaner 550i. I should get my wagon back by the end of the week.

The start/stop button bothers me also. I hate driving with my keys in my pocket. I don't carry alot of keys, but I do have a few lights and fold-up tools are attached to my chain, making it very bulky. So I end up inserting the comfort access transmitter in the steering column slot anyways, I don't know what else to do with my keys. I certainly don't want my keys punching a hole in my suit pants. Therefore I don't get much out of the system.

Your 5's in the shop already? Didnt you just get it like, a month or so ago?

The consensus is that the start/stop button (aka "Bavarian Two-step") is BMW's way of making you get Comfort Access. And its designed so if you don't get CA, you'll regret it.

This was cooked up in the same "genius engineering/marketeering"
section as the 43 buck oil filter removal tool, .

I can hardly wait for the radar assisted, auto deacell cruise control.

You mean Active Cruise Control, which has been available as a $2200 option on newer BMWs since 2004-ish? Radar under front bumper allows you to set 1 to 4 sec distance from vehicle in front of you along with set cruise speed. It'll accel and decel for you if a car merges into your lane or leaves your lane. It'll also brake down to 20mph for you (driver must stop vehicle). Uh yup. Already there.

And the Dynamic Cruise Control which comes standard on most if not all new BMWs now, will apply the brakes when you go downhill so you don't exceed your set speed.
